La Oliva, Granada

Has anyone attended a "tasting" at this establishment in Granada? Sounds like it is a specialty deli with a variety of regional products including olive oils. They do "tasting" evenings occaisionally with 15-20 small plates plus wines, served to 8-12 guests. Incredible positive reviews on TA. It's a bit pricey (38.50 Euros each) but from the reviews it sounds like good value. Just curious if anyone on this forum has been, and what they thought.

I'm not familiar with them. An option that I enjoyed on my last visit to Granada was the afternoon tasting excursion with www.oliveoiltour.com.

P.S It would not be unusual for me to spend 35-40 euros on a nice meal in Europe, so I'm sure that would not stop me from trying the La Oliva tasting.

Kathleen, you will love it!!!! My husband and I were just there almost 2 weeks ago and always stop in for the tastings. You need to reserve at least one day before either by calling> +34 958 22 57 54 or emailing academiadeltapeo@gmail.com Yes, it is 38.50 euros but the owner, the very sweet Francisco Roldan will meet you the day before or speak to you on the phone to find out what you would like and about allergies. He is glad to take you to the local markets to see where your fresh foods come from. You get to watch him cook the foods and he gives details on the local foods and wines you can only get from a local. You can consider this a dinner. You get to try 3 local olive oils and 5 wines with 20 local dishes freshly made before your eyes and you get to enjoy the company of this personable man who will make you feel like a local full of inside info. I hope you'll enjoy it. It is worth the cost.

I'm back, and our evening at La Oliva was one of the most enjoyable in our 3 week trip. We loved the food, the host, the other guests and the whole atmosphere. Francisco is a very interesting and gracious host, and a darn good cook too!

At tasting night (by reservation only) is highly recommended!
