We are staying near St. Stephansplatz in Vienna and went to a wine store or shop called Vinothek St. Stephan. The address is Stephansplatz 6. They had a very nice selection and the person that helped us was great! She suggested two local wines for a total cost of about $40. She told me that they don't sell bad wines!
I am not familiar with your recommendation, but I can personally recommend another wine shop around the corner, loved by locals, called Vinothek W-Einkehr. For the wine lovers, I can also recommend any of the branches of Wein & Co, which have five locations in Vienna - very extensive collection. Julius Meinl am Graben is a gourmet grocery store also with a high caliber wine selection.
I hope that you also plan to visit a heuriger?
Ah, we only have two more nights in Vienna. So much wine, so little time.
Is there a heuriger close to Stephansplatz that you might recommend? Thanks for your suggestions!
Heuriger are on the outskirts of town, not in the city center. If you have two more nights, there is no reason not to visit a heuriger for dinner. They are easy to reach.
I suggest Schuebel-Auer - Take Tram D from the Opera House to the end station. The heuriger will be right across from the stop.
Go for it!
.... She told me that they don't sell bad wines! ..... Nobody sells bad wine.
I second Emily's recommendation too - those countryside wine places are so charming and the perfect low-key night out. Schuebel-Auer does sound ideal since it's right on the tram line. I'll have to check it out along with some more of those wine shops @Emily listed. Even with just a couple of nights, I'm sure we can fit in a wine tasting or two...who are we kidding, we'll make time for it haha.
