Gluten Free in Montréal and Quebec City

In June, I spent five days in Montréal and five days in Quebec City. Finding gluten free food wasn’t easy at first, so perhaps others will find this information helpful.

Montréal:
*Pub Quartier Latin, 318 Rue Ontario St. E: Really tasty and generous chicken Caesar salad- they even put a little wooden Gluten- Free pick in your food to distinguish it.
*3 Brasseurs: great meal salads, plus they serve a very good gf salmon dish with mashed potatoes and roasted vegetables. Nice to have something other than a salad at a place where you can sit and have a glass of wine, as well. This is a local chain, you can also find them in Quebec City.
* Cochon Dingue again, a local chain, in QC, as well. They served very tasty bowls. Their gravlax bowl was delicious!
* Poulet Rouge basic bowls with a protein, grain and veggies. Went to the one on St. Denis and Ontario- the server was well-versed in gluten free eating.

In Quebec City, Veravin 2.0 was my best meal of the trip. Totally gf restaurant. They just do two seatings a night, reservations highly recommended. This food was cooked with love and care. Even gluten eating companions will love their food. Their prices are the same as the other restaurants mentioned. We wanted to eat there a second night, as well, but they were booked.

IGA grocery store has a gf section with Scharr bread. I never made it to the local gf bakery, Hansel and Gretel, on Saint Jean, away from the real touristy section, as they close early, 5:00, I believe. Half the kids serving ice cream in QC don’t get gf at all - one place in QC told me that all their ice cream had gluten, which is highly unlikely. The Erico Chocolaterie had excellent ice cream, and they can tell you the ingredients for everything they sell. They even give you a little chocolate piece on top of your bowl of ice cream.

Thanks for sharing! I have Celiac Disease, and I always appreciate hearing about the available GF foods in cities I plan to visit. Thank you for taking the time to write this report.
