Chocolates in Brugge

On a recent cruise to Northern Europe, we used the Northern Europe Cruise Ports book from Rick Steves. He recommended Dumon Chocolates in the book so we walked right past many other shops and found Dumon. We were so impressed with the quality of the chocolates and the friendliness of the shop owner. We commented that it was a shame that we could not eat too much of the chocolate because we were diabetic. She told us that she has sugar free chocolate made with Stevia. This is very rare in the states as sugar free chocolate is generally sweetened with Maltitol which is known to cause severe gastric distress. The shop owner offered to let us sample the SF chocolate. We couldn't tell it was sugar free. The taste and the texture matched her regular chocolates. Of course, we had to buy some. I hope that future editions of Brugge guides include this fact for other chocolate loving diabetics.
