Cafe Caillou 210 Rue de Grendel’s 75007 Paris

My wife, Sandy, and I returned to the United States on Monday. Our 10-day trip to Paris was to commemorate our first trip the “city of lights” 50 years ago—a trip during which we fell in love.

Our recent trip was truly magical, and our experience was everything we hoped it would be. What exceeded our dreams, and exceeded our expectations was the warm welcome, gracious hospitality, friendship, and culinary excellence extended to us by the team at Cafe Caillou. At the center of this cafe, that made us “feel at home” at the end of our days exploring Paris, was “Clementine.” The warmth of her welcoming smile, her sense of humor, and her attention to her guests set the standard and tone for this cafe. She is the heart and soul of this restaurant. Without being asked, a young man that served us on several of our visits spoke to us about her with great respect and admiration — and no wonder. The chef does a great job —his beef Bourgogne and Vol au Vent de Mer — were truly outstanding. Bar staff helped with wine recommendations— and provided friendly explanations and encouragement to explore French wines — without hesitation or condescension.

In short Cafe Caillou is a great restaurant — and at the heart of its greatness is that the people working there love each other —and are proud to commit themselves to an ethic of excellence in service, culinary excellence, and true, heartfelt hospitality. The “Cafe Caillou” team made Sandy and I feel so welcome and “at home” that we recommend the cafe to other couples and families — all of whom reported the same outstanding experience Sandy and enjoyed.

Sandy and I want thank the entire Cafe Caillou team for treating us so well, for sharing their talents, and extending their friendship. All your hard work is very much respected and appreciated.

Sandy and Mike

I sent the note above to the Cafe Caillou a day or two after Sandy and I returned from our recent trip To Paris.
