York Hotel recommendations?

Looking for opinions on hotels or B&B in central location in York. We will be there three nights May 27-30. We've never been to York. We like walking neighborhoods and don't mind using public transportation as well. We'll be leaving York on the train to Dumfries.
Thanks!

We have stayed several times at the Dean Court Hotel. It faces Yorkminster and several of the rooms have "full frontal" views of Yorkminster.

We liked our stay at No.21 York B&B last May. A short walk from the train station and a quick walk, through a lovely city park, to the sights. Room was comfortable and furnished with slippers, robes. The breakfast was really exceptional...many choices, large portions and all well prepared. We thought the counter with fruits, juices, cereals, etc was breakfast...then they showed us the menu. Safe travels.

We stayed at the Abbey Guest House last year, a short walk across the bridge from the train station. Everything else we wanted to see in York was walkable from there. Its a fairly compact central city.

We found the Queens hotel comfortable. Walkable from the train station and to the shambles right on the river.

I think you’ll get as many different recommendations as you get replies! I’m not going to add to the list as I live close to York so haven’t had need for accommodation. However, York city centre is very compact and all sights are easily walkable from each other assuming you are fairly mobile. I would check out booking.com. That way you can find something you like the look of in your price range. I would stay close in to the centre as the outskirts won’t offer much as a tourist and getting into the centre will be a pain each day. There are lots of restaurants and pubs in the centre with new ones opening all the time as York is becoming quite a foodie city and it is quite safe to walk around at night. You will be here over school half term break though so expect it to be busy!
