Where to stay in York

My Husband and I will be in York for two nights in June. I am looking for a place to stay. I'm all about location to the most interesting sites.

arriving by train? price range? We stayed at a B&B near the train station, but found all the sites we needed to see were walkable as the town center is fairly compact, including the wall. In fact the daily free walking tour covered much of it.

We are arriving by train from Edinburgh. We will be flying home from Glasgow. Mid-upper price range works . I'm looking for location to the main Glasgow sites vs how far it is to walk from the Train station.

Sorry I confused this one with my Glasgow one. But same information except we are arriving by train to York then going by train to Durham

Gillygate Guest House

We loved it; Mark and Joyce who are the innkeepers are outstanding. Mark will happily help you plan your day including marking a map for you that makes getting lost impossible. Joyce's breakfasts are delicious. They are very accommodating. When I mentioned to Mark how I adored blood oranges, they were offered at breakfast the next day. (Yes, they were in season!)

The location is ideal too.

We will be in York for the first time in a couple of weeks and booked the Best Western Dean Court hotel. Gets very good reviews and it is right next door to the Minster.

Thank you for your advice. If these are booked or don't work out for some reason. what would be the best area to stay in for all the sites?

This May we spent a few nights at No.21 York. We totally enjoyed our stay. Our room with en suite was spacious and comfortable. ( I’m fairly sure they supplied fluffy robes and slippers but won’t swear to it ). The breakfasts were excellent. We thought the buffet with fruit salads, breads, spreads, juices, etc. was the breakfast, but then discovered we had a choice of several made to order breakfast options...delicious, and huge portions, which we learned to limit after day one. It was perhaps a 10 min walk from the train station and well located for easy walking to all sights. Our path took us through a beautiful city park each day to reach the sights. I would highly recommend. Nice people, pleasant visit.

To the east of River Ouse within a 5 minute walk of the Minster and/or the Shambles. If you make your reservations in the next few weeks for a trip in June, you should have many options available to you.

We have stayed three times at Dean Court (Best Western) Hotel which faces York Minster. They have a few rooms which have an excellent view of the minster.

My daughter highly recommends the Guy Falkes Inn. I have not been for many years but I remember York as a very special place.

We found a great small hotel walking distance from the railway station (if you don't have much luggage). Great location near the city.

The Judges Lodging is in a great central location and a short walk from the station. It's a historic building - now a popular pub with rooms and restaurant.
