I am taking a 3:25pm flight back to LAX in July. We will be coming from Windermere. I am thinking I should plan to be at the airport at 12pm/noon. I can't figure out how long it will take me to get there and which train we should take. I have a Britrail pass so I'm not worried about costs. I think it should take about 4 hours. I will be traveling with my 5 yr old and I just want to make sure we don't miss our flight. Can anyone recommend which trains to take that morning from Windermere to get us to Heathrow on time?
The 8.23am from Oxenholme arrives at Euston at 11.11am. From there you could go over to Kings Cross St Pancras and take the Piccadilly Line to Heathrow, which takes about an hour and should get you to Heathrow somewhere between 12.15 and 12.30pm.
National rail app. is your friend.
At least on weekdays, the 7.55 am train would get you to Heathrow by 12.16.
Change Oxenholme.
Change London Euston to tube to Paddington station.
Heathrow Express from Paddington..
There is an even earlier train, which would buy you a little more peace of mind
The disaster that pretends to be a timetable change has particularly hit Northern Rail (or whatever they are calling themselves these days). In order to get to Oxenholme for the Virgin train you need the Northern train from Windermere to Oxenholme.
Ever since the new timetable they have had trouble running trains on the Lake branch, and today the entire branch line was simply shut down.
If that is still going on a month from now there will be some sort of replacement bus probably or can taxi to Oxenholme.
Personally I wouldn't count on traveling the length of England on a departure day for a transatlantic flight. YMMV

Having just found Windemere on a map of the UK, I agree with Nigel. I wouldn't sleep the night before - and that's before reading Nigel's information about possible trouble on this line.
It appears that rail service between Windermere and Oxenholme will be suspended for rail replacement through July. Buses will replace the trains on that part of the journey. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-cumbria-44299814 .
If I had to be at Heathrow for a 3:25 pm international departure, I wouldn't want to start from Windermere that morning. Just saying.

I have booked three nights in Windermere but could change that to two nights and do one night closer to Heathrow. I was kind of trying to stay out of London. We will already have been in Bath. Is there another easily train accessible town we could stay for a night on July 11th that would make getting to Heathrow easier for a 3:25pm flight on July 12th?
I think Windsor would fit the bill for your little princess and a one night stay before you fly back the next day.
Get a hotel room near Heathrow for your last night, or if you don't want to go near London, check out another city closer to London or on a line for a good rail connection.
York is still far north, but it might work.
Also, consider Warwick, you son might like Warwick Cast.e
To me York would still be too far. One data point over thousands of departures but the last time I did York to London, the first train was delayed 1.5 hours after hitting a horse so we were boarded onto another departure which then was delayed for another hour due to a broken rail.
Happen every day? Of course not but I would have been frantic if I were trying to make a flight. Well, until you knew all was lost and you would be buying a new one way ticket back home.
here is a recent thread where I suggested St Albans as a nice place to stay
from Euston it's an easy walk to St Pancras station (to St Albans) then there are direct buses from St Albans to Heathrow

Along the lines of Pam's experience, our train from York to London was cancelled, along with all southbound trains, due to a death on the tracks and investigation. After an hour or so the trains resumed, and we had to scramble along with everyone else to find one with seats available. cortunately we were not trying to get to the airport for a flight, just trying to reach our London apartment.
I would second the suggestion for Windsor for your overnight before the flight. Very pleasant town with a riverside path, and this little-known building known as Windsor Castle. . . .
Thank you all-I'm so glad I asked this. We are going to change our dates in Windermere and find something closer. Maybe Oxford or Windsor sound good (I had wanted to go to Oxford but didn't think I could fit it in).
I'd recommend Windsor, closer to the airport, but if you want to stay in Oxford this bus service to Heathrow may work better for you than taking a train into Paddington and then back out to the airport.
Or take the train from Oxford to Reading and then the bus shuttle to the Airport. ( Britrail Pass would is not valid on the Reading to Heathrow bus link).https://www.firstgroup.com/berkshire-thames-valley/rail-air/
The Magna Carta is in Salisbury
I’m not sure what in the thread this relates to, but there are four original Magna Cartas. There’s another one in Lincoln.
