Hi Everyone-
My husband and I are planning a week in London in late December/early January. We have been examining our options regarding public transit, and think we've settled on each of us loading an Oyster Card with a 7-day, Zones 1 & 2 Travelcard plus about £15 PAYG. We are flying into Heathrow early on a Saturday (which I know is Zone 6), then taking the Tube to our hotel, which is in Zone 1. The rest of our week will be in Zones 1 & 2, except for a day trip to Windsor (which we know isn't in the Travelcard radius, so we will likely be taking a bus to Paddington station, then catching a train to Windsor, which we would pay for separately at Paddington I assume). Then we are flying back out from Heathrow early the following Saturday (which by my math will be after the 7 days covered by the Travelcard). So here are my questions:
* Have I got that about right?
* Any words of wisdom about exactly how I articulate that to the person at the Heathrow Underground station when buying our cards? We'll have just stepped off an overnight flight, so anything I can plan ahead to convey in my jet-lagged state is appreciated!
* We did see an option for a "Visitors" Oyster Card, which can be repurchased and shipped to us in the States, but the website said that you couldn't load a Travelcard to the Visitors' Oyster, and the price difference between pure PAYG and the Travelcard seems pretty substantial given the amount of sightseeing/on-and-off transport that we're planning on doing.
* Do I understand correctly that since I'm only planning 1 trip beyond Zones 1 & 2 during the time my Travelcard is active, plus the trip back to airport after that, that the Oyster system will magically understand to just debit my £15 balance for the difference between my Travelcard prepaid radius and what I'm actually traveling?
* Do I have the bit about Windsor right?
Thank you in advance, as always, for your help. We have gained such a sense of confidence in traveling abroad by getting great advice on these boards!
Best,
Peggy
