Recommendations for London hotel

Need recommendations for a London hotel.
Centrally located. Near an Underground station. Breakfast available. Mid range price.

Last trip we loved the K & K George but it is closed next May for renovations. So something similar?

I don't know what you consider a mid-range price, but on our last two visits to London, we've enjoyed staying at the Celtic, on a quiet street near the British Museum, St Pancras station, and Russell Square. Delicious breakfast. I think the current rate for an en suite double is £150 or so. Close to several Underground stations and bus stops. We're booked in there again next summer.

Here's a review I posted earlier this year. I understand the price is going up next July.

I read 'shared bathrooms' at the Celtic which is a no-go (sorry for the pun) for me.

Mid-range for London for me is $300 approx. or less.

We always stayed by the Gloucester Rd. Tube stop. Three lines run through it making it easy to get anywhere. Our preferred hotel is the Radisson Blu Edwardian Vanderbilt on Cromwell Rd., but in 2022 we stayed at The Bailey’s on Gloucester Rd., just outside the tube station.

We really enjoyed Bailey's London Kensington Hotel near the Gloucester Rd tube station. There are grocery stores and great restaurants nearby also. The Hereford Arms was a favorite. You can also walk to Kensington Gardens and the Victoria and Albert Museum from there.

If you liked the Earls Court neighborhood of the K & K George, check out the Resident Kensington.

It's one block east of Earls Court Road. Nice boutique hotel with a great staff.

I've been staying there for over 7.5 years.

I think the Celtic does have a shared bath option, but the two times we've stayed there the bathroom was en suite.

My recommendation for finding a London hotel would be to go to booking.com, enter your dates in May, pull up the map view, then adjust your maximum price to $300 or so. Look for the hotels with the highest ratings and then do further research on your short list. One variable to keep track of is room size.

The booking.com ratings for hotels are a good indicator due to the large number of reviews. We've stayed at four London hotels in the last 18 months, and our own ranking matched the order they'd be in if we went by the booking.com score. We also thought back to various stays over the years and those recollections were consistent with the scoring as well. Good luck with your search!

I second the recommendation for The Resident Kensington. I have stayed there multiple times and highly recommend it.

I think you can get a cheaper rate at the Resident by becoming a Residence member (for free).

63 Bayswater. https://number63.co.uk/

A continental breakfast is included in the price. Used to be a full cooked breakfast but things change.

There’s an elevator.

Two favorite pubs are nearby. The Mitre Lancaster Gate and The Victoria Paddington . Love the latter for the etched glass.

Also an excellent small restaurant Tudkin Flavors of Malaysia is 1 block and 1/2 way.

63 is Across the road from the Lancaster Gate entrance into Hyde Park at the Italian Gardens. 15 minute stroll from Paddington Station. 1/2 block from Lancaster Underground Station. From there its a 20 minute bus ride to Westminster: Houses of Parliament, Elizabeth’s Tower with the Big Ben bell, Churchill War Rooms, Horseguards, and St James Park. Can also walk up Birdcage Walk to Buckingham Palace.

If you take the Tube from Lancaster Gate you’ll take a Central Line train to Bond Street and change to a Jubilee Line to Westminster. 20-25 minutes.

I was just looking at The Baileys today. For late April, a classic double without breakfast was $325/night, unless one joined their group. With breakfast, $380. Those are the flexible rates (cancellation possible).

We stayed at the London House Hotel near Bayswater tube station in July. It was in a quiet neighborhood and we would stop at a bakery for breakfast on the way to the tube station. We walked to Paddington station to catch the Heathrow Express. We even walked to Hyde Park and Notting Hill neighborhood. I recommend the area especially if you are flying in or out of Heathrow. It was about $250/night including all fees and taxes. We booked through Expedia which was cheaper than direct.
