Our beloved Number 63 in London is closing... :(

We received an email this week that our beloved Number 63 in London will be closing as of October 1. This would have been our fourth visit, and we were saddened by the news. If I'm permitted to do so, here is the text of the email...

"A Heartfelt Thank You
It is with a heavy heart that we announce that Hotel 63 will no longer be trading from 1st October 2026.
We would like to sincerely thank each and every one of you for your support, loyalty, and wonderful memories over the years. ❤️
It has been an absolute pleasure welcoming you, and we are truly grateful to everyone who has been part of our journey.
Thank you for everything.
Best Wishes
Victoria"

This is a true loss to our traveling community who loved this quirky place with the lovely location across from Hyde Park. RIP Number 63... :(

Oh, dear. Not another one!

Vincent House London Residence, in nearby Notting Hill Gate, ceases operation on August 31. Like Hotel 63, it had many customers who visited year after year and loved it dearly.

I'm afraid that London is losing its "quirky places" to the booming international real estate market.

I loved this hotel, only stayed there twice, but really loved it! I booked a one night stay there in April 2027 and received my refund yesterday. I didn't hear from the Hotel itself because I booked through a third party, guest reservations.

I agree, Linda. R.I.P. Number 63.

I have a funny story to share on my 2nd and last visit, in December 2024. When my friend and I arrived with our bags to check in for our 7-night stay, the manager started asking us about the recent US Presidential election. She was very happy about the results and we said, not so much on our parts. I'm not getting into politics here, this is funny! She then proceeded to tell us the after-hours code to enter the hotel - 4547! I laughed my head off! She cheerfully gave us 10% off our rooms when she saw we did not share her opinion on our election.

Thanks, Frank II -- I only saw that after I did my post. Sad to see these old places go, but such is life nowadays. The email we received didn't state this, but I'm imagining that they'll do a complete restoration and upgrade and that we'll be able to book GBP1000 rooms some day...except that's completely out of our budget. :( Does anyone have an affordable yet still quirky London place to recommend? We've stayed at Vancouver Studios a couple of times and once had a darling ground floor room with French doors out to a garden patio that was lovely... :)

Sadly happening the world over I see my tourist city in the US had quirky single ownership hotels and B&Bs that have been bought up by private equity and conglomerates. Probably because nowadays those quirky hotel folks just stay at AirBnBs, while the rest go to the nicer hotels. The old mom/pop hotels are just about dead.
