traveling next week with my husband from Newcastle to London. Want to spend one night in the cotswolds. I really don't want to stay In Stratford, but not sure where else I can go that is a little low key with lots with culture and a short train trip. Newcastle to Stratford in 2 hours and 7 mins. Newcaste to moreinton is over 3 and a half hours. Would love some suggestions ask to where to stop and stay that is off the beaten path with lots of local culture.
thanks. Lisa
If it's only for one night, I would say you'd be going out of your way and getting very little chance to actually experience the Cotswolds. Would you consider instead a beautiful destination that's more on the main route between Newcastle and London? There is the Peak District just west of Sheffield.
For train route, see https://www.rome2rio.com/s/Newcastle-Station/Peak-District-National-Park
Here is a map of the area with points of interest highlighted.

One advantage would be, if people ask, "Did you go to the Cotswolds?" you can say, "Oh, no, everybody goes there. We wanted to be a little more original."
This is a duplicate post. The other one is here: https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/england/newcastle-to-cotswolds-d917c89e-20a7-4ef2-93ea-5acdd38f16be
In the other post you have had many replies, pointing out a number of issues:
- Which Newcastle do you mean? Newcastle-upon-Tyne or Newcastle-under-Lyme? Or another one? For a full list, see here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newcastle#United_Kingdom
- Which Stratford do you mean? Stratford-upon-Avon or Stratford, London? Or another one? For a full list, see here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stratford
- moreinton does not exist, do you mean Moreton-in-the-Marsh?
How are you travelling? Train or car?
Newcastle-upon-Tyne is a lot more than 2 hours from Stratford-upon-Avon, you probably looked it up wrong and got the time for one of the other Newcastle's.
