We are looking to spend 5 nights in York in early June 2025. Looking at the Bar Convent Guest Rooms but also am seeing the Grand York for a similar price. Both look nice. any suggestions? Also hearing on review sites that booking directly with the hotel usually is cheaper and more likely to result in an included "cooked breakfast" (assume this is different from the continental breakfasts touted by Booking.com etc.). There are just two of us.
The Grand York was recently discussed here:

That would be my first choice if you can get a good price. Definitely book directly with the hotel.
Thank you so much! I didn't see a way to search previous topics, so I just decided to ask. Good info!
I stayed in Bar Convent in ‘19. I was in a single room. Very good breakfast, nice people, interesting history to the place which was one of the reasons I chose it. Not at all flashy but I’d stay there again in a minute. York is a cool place and the Minster is so amazing.
That is great to hear. We will likely book one of the two. I will research the rest of Yorkshire on this forum. Cheers!
Recommend the Minster Hotel, we stayed there a few years ago. It is in a great location with parking,

maturzakmary, to search on a laptop or desktop, just click on the Search icon at the top, key in your search terms (i.e., York hotel), hit Enter, then when the results pop up, you can filter them further. To the left of the results, you will se a box that says "Filter by Type." Click on "Travel Forum", and then choose one of the options in the "Filter by Date" box. I usually go with 2 years or less, for hotel threads.
To access the Search function on a cellphone or tablet, click on the 5 horizontal lines in the upper left hand corner, and the Search icon will appear. Follow the directions above, and you should get some good results.
