He last stayed here back in 2012 and have fond memories of it. We're planning on a trip over to London in the spring, bringing along some friends who have never been there and thought the Aster House would be perfect. Has anyone stayed there recently?
mtbaerden, I remember having read a fairly recent negative review of Aster House, but using the search function could not find it. It did, however, find this: https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/general-europe/blind-faith-recommendations which was sparked by the negative review.
Let's hope someone who has stayed there recently will respond to your post.
I’ve checked my records and apparently I stayed at the Astor Hotel in Marylebone and not the Aster House so I’ve deleted most of my post.
Mind you I’m British and I tend not to like Rick Steves’ style hotels at all - I am not looking for “quaint” or “characterful” in a hotel. I want crisp, clean, modern, no one asking me my business. So I’m not necessarily the right person to ask.
I have stayed at Aster House several times in recent years. It works well for me because I have stayed in South Kensington since the early 1990s but Number Sixteen (just down the street from Aster House) now costs more than I want to pay. I like Aster House's neighborhood and proximity to the Tube. I've had no problems with lack of cleanliness. The owner, Leonie Tan, is friendly and helpful. I'd rather stay there than a large, impersonal hotel.
The writer of the negative review took a lot of flack, so she deleted the post.
Ah, I wondered what happened. Thanks, TexasTravelMom.
I would like to see negative reviews stay, unless they're mean spirited. They can be very helpful.
