Has anyone taken the day train to Copenhagen from Oslo?
I have read that the scenery is spectacular and wonder if it is worth the time and money?
Any comments or advice is most welcome!
Susan
Scenery is a matter of opinion, but I would not call it spectacular. There are some really nice parts though and in general very pleasant views. It was a lot more scenic 10-15 years ago, but that is of no help to you now…
You can see the schedules and prices at www.sj.se if you are interested.
thanks - sounds like what I read overstated the scenery!
Yes, the scenery is nice but not spectacular. i would recommend breaking the journey in Gothenburg, Sweden's second city, for a night or two, as that would make for better train travel.
Of course Ösesund crossing is scenic but the rest isn't spectacular imo?

More known as scenic is Oslo - Bergen.
I've taken the overnight ferry from Copenhagen to Oslo. It was cheaper than a hotel room and the scenery the last two hours into Oslo was impressive. Not sure of the saiing times from Oslo to Copenhagen.
This spring I'm taking the train because I want to make stops along the way.
There is no right or wrong. Just personal preference.
thanks for all the helpful responses! We have decided to skip the ferry/train and fly directly to Copenhagen.
That's too bad. The ferry would have been a better option in my opinion. Since most of the time on the ferry is spent sleeping you won't really save any time by flying. And the ferry gives you some great views, especially the part through the Oslo fjord.
