I’ll be visiting Czech Republic from 01/02/27 until 01/09/27. I realize I’ll likely miss the Christmas market season, but I’m still really looking forward to the trip and making the most of it.
I’d greatly appreciate any recommendations for hotels, activities, restaurants, or other must-see experiences during that time. Thank you!
You have a lot of time to plan! May I start with the recommendation of watching videos on the Honest Guide YouTube channel, if you have not found it. A couple of Prague locals who go around showing off the city and its environs, as well as fighting scammers. Many tips for local experiences and avoiding tourist traps. https://www.youtube.com/c/HONESTGUIDE
The typical big Prague sites can be found in an guide or in the Rick Steves Prague recommendations on this website. As for advice for other activities, what are your interests?
- If general military history, for example, I would recommend the Army Museum Žižkov coupled with a visit to the nearby National Monument at Vitkov with its monument of Jan Žižka, the one-eye 15th century general who never lost a battle.
- If the fine arts, catch an opera at one of three venues that offer them or a classical concert at the Rudolfinum.
- If food tours, I did three during my week plus in Prague. The best company, in my opinion, was this one: https://prague-food-tour.com. I did the Delicious Food Tour
- If Operation Anthropoid, do a tour that lets you see those sites
There is so much to do in and around Prague. Here's what I did with my time in Prague in October: https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/trip-reports/eight-days-in-prague-in-october-a-solo-traveller-s-trip-report
Thank you Dave for the tips, I will checkout the links.
You'll clip the end of the Christmas season as the bigger markets don't close until the evening of the 6th. So that means Wenceslas Square, Old Town Square and Republic Square will still have markets running.
