Off a cruise ship for a day in Split. Recommendations for things to see?
Thanks!
Joy
Just walk around the Palace/city. Go into the church and climb the bell tower. It is on Peristil Trg. They have a lovely ethnographic museum which is usually pretty empty. I have a guide who could take you around for a few hours. His name is Pero And his email is [email protected]. His rates are very reasonable, less then the cruise ship excursion. Ask if he will take $. The dollar is very strong right now. Euro would be fine since they are moving over soon. Mention Barbara & Sanjin from NY. We have used him a few times with various family members. You’ll love Split, it’s my favorite city in Croatia..
Joy,
Split has wonderful architecture & history. See some highlights here: https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/croatia/places-to-see-in-croatia
We love Split. Spent 4 nights there. It's a beautiful city with very pretty architecture and a great location on the water.
For one day, walk around Diocletian's Palace. I recommend hiring Maya Benzon as a private tour guide. Rick recommends Maya. We hired her for a 2-hour private tour of Diocletian's Palace and old town.
We also enjoyed the ethnographic museum, too. Have a drink on the Riva (waterfront promenade) and enjoy the scenery. Our hotel manager advised us not to eat on the Riva because the food isn't very good. We had breakfast every day at Bokeria because it was included with our hotel rate. Breakfast was delicious. They serve lunch and dinner, too, so that would be a good place for lunch.
What Barbara said. Diocletian’s Palace has it all.
