Viking Cruises

We know several people who just returned from Viking Cruises. One couple was traveling with another couple, and all four came down with COVID. Another friend on a different cruise reported that there were basically no meaningful COVID protocols. One couple came down with COVID and were sent to the hospital. The captain held the ship’s departure so that this couple could return to the cruise.

It’s happening everywhere and on all cruises and all tours! We did 3 cruises during later Covid and were never infected. We tested often throughout and were very careful and vaxed. Still happens. We both didn’t get Covid till Feb of this year! Then we were at home living normal for us. Don’t know how. Just had cold and cough symptoms.
Covid is much less reported now but one still has to decide their risk factors to travel. I know people with it now who had never had it. They would tell you how careful they have always been. Just so infectious….and some get sick! Not sure we can blame cruises or tour agencies. It’s what we all do to move on….your decision.

Based on posts here in this forum, people seemed to be divided as to whether strong COVID protocols are a positive, or a deterrent to wanting to take a tour or cruise. Even on a cruise, there's plenty of contact with the unmasked local populations.

Bob, I’m sorry to see you are attributing your friend’s illnesses to Viking. We just returned from a 3-week Viking Expedition cruise to Antarctica and extension to Patagonia and didn't contract Covid. The crew members all wore masks. There were washing stations and hand sanitizers at the entrance to every dining venue. The crew constantly cleaned the public areas (before and post Covid). Viking was one of the first lines to institute daily testing when cruising resumed in 2021. Thankfully, we’re past that now. It’s possible that your friends contracted Covid at home before they departed, in the airport, on the plane, in a taxi, souvenir shop, or restaurant.
