US Citizen travelling between EU countries, then back home--what do I need?

I'm a fully vaccinated US citizen who plans to travel USA-->Italy-->Portugal-->USA. Will a Green Certificate allow me to do this? How do I get one? What do I need in order to return to the USA?

Also, I have the little CDC card I received at vaccination. Do I need to carry this with me to the airport, or will they accept a photo of both sides?

Is there some official clearinghouse of information that addresses these kinds of questions? I hate to be a bother.

Thank you!

You need to carry the original CDC card, not a photo copy. You need to check the US Embassy site for each country you are going to be in and see what the requirements are for entry and exit. The bad thing is that the information may change at any moment depending on both the local situation and any changes by the US Government.

To re-enter the U.S., you need proof of a negative antigen or PCR test taken with the 3 days prior to your departure for the States.

Green certificates don't exist yet for U.S. citizens (and may never exist).

The Re-open EU web site is updated frequently to follow the latest travel requirements. This is an official EU web site:

https://reopen.europa.eu/en

One the main page, above the map, click on the blue-outlined box labeled "Travel Plan." You can then enter your origin ("Rest of World") and destination ("Portugal"), and click "Go!" You can then add your Transit ("Italy"). The page will give you the current detailed requirements.

for getting to the European countries only Immigration cares what your citizenship (who issued your passport). The covid rules are all about your residence and countries transited rather than citizenship.

Donald I inserted a link to a relevant article. Why do you think it is spam? I am a long time contributor here and know well the guidelines.

there was some particularly nasty spam yesterday and webbie has taken it down but the warning survives unless that poster revisits and removes - it wasn't directed at you Laurel. I saw it and was about to report it myself but was beaten to the punch.

We all have different methods of warning against vile content.
