Travel Insurance Pay Out

I recently needed to cancel an upcoming trip to India that I had insured through USAA Travel Insured International for medical reasons. I just received the check today! Great customer service. Be prepared to provide a copy of everything (credit card payments and credits, tour and airline refund policies, etc) along with a document completed by your physician.

This is great to hear! I bought an annual policy this year through USAA/Travel Insured .... and haven't had to use it. In addition to Medical Evacuation, I liked that the policy has "Political or Security Evacuation" and "Natural Disaster Evacuation."

Not that I ever hope to need any of those!

Thanks for sharing that info. I finally bought through USAA as well. We’ve been quite fortunate to not have any issues over the years but as we age, it seemed to be a smart move, especially since we have multiple international trips over the next year. Time to be safe rather than sorry!

I bought the AIG travel insurance recommended by RS when I booked my tour. Had to cancel my 10/22 Italy trip due to a needed unscheduled surgery. Nightmarish experience with AIG. After jerking me around for 5 months, several times submitting the same documentation which they kept telling me was complete, they paid after I submitted complaints to my states insurance commissioner, the Better Business Bureau and my states consumer affairs agency, all of whom opened and followed up on my complaints.

Cindy glad to hear your claim was paid promptly. I also have had a good experience with claim payment with USAA/Travel Insured. Best wishes for your health.

CWSocial,
I'm in the process of deciding which World Wide policy to buy online right now. Where on the site is the annual policy?
Thx all for sharing , and good health!

Another vote for Travel Insured! They promptly paid my claim last October when the airline strike hit Italy, and we were stranded with no way to get to Paris. Paid for lost nights in Rome, train to Paris, and hotel night in Milan. I have always used them and always will.

Any other suggestions for annual dependable travel insurance? USAA is not available in WA state. :(

I normally purchase single-trip policies from Nationwide. I've never needed a payout on their travel policy, but numerous on a different policy. As long as I submit the right documentation, they have always paid out quickly.

Nationwide has lower medical coverage than the USAA/TravelInsured policy, but I have my own, so I never needed theirs. Nationwide has Medical Evacuation, but not the Political, Security and Natural Disaster.

Both annual policies have optional coverage for Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption, which my credit card covers for the few non-refundable travel purchases that I make.
