Report - entering Italy by car from France

We drove from Antibes into Italy today. I followed every requirement to the letter. We all had our Passenger Locator Forms and Health Passes. I filled out the Italian questionnaire and it dictated that we did not need a COVID test because we have been in France for over 14 days.

With our driver/guide, we approached the entry into Italy and there was…nothing. Our driver/guide says that in all of her COVID-era crossings, there has been no one checking anything. This was at the Ventimiglia crossing.

Anecdotal information only, but in case it’s helpful, I’m posting it:)

Family member reported the same, no stopping, checking as crossed border.

Regardless if you are checked or not, you are still obligated to comply with all measures indicated by the Country you are entering.

I would not expect any country to impose border control for land crossings by car. Even by train it would be unlikely, though it is not unheard of for authorities to board a train at a border stop, go through the train, and get off at the next stop.

Keep in mind as well, that your passport information is recorded at hotels, authorities could also choose to follow up based on that.

Heck, even arriving by plane, it is only the airline that checks documents, at immigration, all they are concerned about is your passport.
