Reluctant for the Adriatic Tour

We were excited about our upcoming tour in the fall. However, after experiencing Covid after a vacation in Hawaii, it has given us pause about this trip. My symptoms were mild and recovered quickly while my husband can't get rid of the coughing after seven days and is still testing positive. Fortunately we are recuperating at home; however, Hawaii would not have been a bad place to have to quarantine. His symptoms have caused us concerns since he is still having symptoms. We are worried that should we get Covid again about having to quarantine somewhere in the Adriatic and left to navigate while the R/S continues without us, we would feel lost.

The feedback from others on other tours who faced quarantine was informative but I'm hoping to get some feedback about anyone who went on the Adriatic Tour and had to quarantine.

These decisions are difficult. I'm sorry he has been so ill and I can see why you are spending some time thinking about this topic.

I can't address your original question, but I did want to mention that if your Adriatic Tour is within 90 days of your recent positive covid test, you may want to get a certificate of recovery from your physician to assist in travels.

Here are the current expectations for Slovenia if you have a positive test. No quarantine required. You are expected to use precautions and common sense.

Thanks for responding. The country might not require a quarantine. The idea of being left behind while the R/S Tour continues if we test positive, especially in Slovenia, Croatia, makes us anxious regarding medical care, etc. I would like to hear from travelers who experienced having to leave the tour because of a positive test.

I also have put down my deposit for an Adriatic tour beginning late August. I just returned from 14 days in Greece, 9 of which I missed because on the 4th day of the tour, I tested positive and had to leave the tour. My husband and 5 others were also quarantining in Kardamyli, Greece, a village with a population of about 1,000. Fortunately, there was a doctor nearby who traveled through this village every day to work in Kalamata. She had been educated in the USA and was really good. What luck, right? The RS guide sourced her for us and we are grateful for the care. But I might guess this is not the usual for such a small village in any country, including the USA. I would hate to lose my deposit, but after Covid about 4 days later I contracted another virus which is still hanging on (worse than Covid!) --- and during our last 5 days in Europe and UK I was dragging due to this cold. I suspect Covid renders you susceptible to other infections. While quarantining, I posted in this forum and got quite a few replies (On RS tour now, got Covid) you might want to read.

I hope someone replies about experience with the Adriatic tour. Some of the villages have less than 500 in them.

Laural, I haven't been on the Adriatic tour, but you are asking good questions. I tend to be an over planner, so if I had signed up for that tour, I would try to get a feel for the options for medical service/quarantine accommodations in the various places the tour is visiting. I would imagine there might be some differences in options between the larger cities/smaller villages. Good luck with your decision!

(Also want to mention I appreciate Carol now retired's input and the informational links she provides. I have found her posts to be very helpful in planning for "what if's" during our upcoming trip.)

There are also differences between countries, with Italy being one of the strictest. That is why I included a link for one of the countries you are visiting. One person's experience in another country is not likely to be the same experience that you would have. Beyond that, I imagine that each person's experience ends up being different anyway.

I hope that you are able to make the decision that makes the most sense for you and your husband. These aren't easy times to travel.

Thank you for responding to my post. I appreciate the advice and information offered by Carol Now Retired and jdill7. Our friends and I have been trying to go on this tour since 2019 (canceled due to the pandemic). Before you responded to this thread, Jdill7, I had been following your thread thoroughly which gave us a lot to think about. It has now been two weeks, my husband is still coughing and finally tested negative. Because he has not bounce back totally and we had to cancel by June 4, we decided to cancel.

In the meantime, we will travel within the US for awhile. We look forward to next year.

We are both still coughing from Covid - 3 weeks now for me. When are you travelling? I feel Ive got 90 days of freedom as in NZ I'm not even expected to quarantine again if someone in the house gets covid within 90 days of my infection. Did you require medical care this time around? Why do you think you'd need it overseas? Even if you did you are travelling in first world countries - plus you will die laughing at the size of the bill (In a good way). Personally I'm far more concerned if we needed hospital care in the USA (can't get insurance for that!) .

I've never done an organized trip - and we are doing our own tour in the Balkans in September. If you get sick what I normally do is up my level of hotel and brib/ttip staff to do the running around for me.

But really if you are going soon you are low risk of a 2nd bout
