Qs re dPLF and QR codes

I'm traveling to Italy in just over 3 weeks. As I have all my flight and accommodations info, including seat numbers on each flight, can I go ahead and fill out and submit the dPLF right now, or must/should I wait until closer to date of travel?

My local Walgreens will do a free rapid antigen test but they warn that if it is for purposes of international travel, they do not issue QR codes with the results. Is a paper print out of results going to be okay, or should I look for a testing cite that gives us a QR code? If the latter isn't required, is it nevertheless a good idea? I think I read on this forum that one traveler was almost going to be denied boarding because the gate agent was insisting on a QR code, but ultimately he relented and accepted the paper print out. Is this happening commonly? In everything I'm reading about the requirement to test, nothing is said about the necessity for a QR code.

Per the instructions given for the dPLF, you are supposed to wait until check-in and complete prior to departure. However, many have completed them the week of travel or earlier to no ill effect.

The dPLF is really additional information submitted for contact tracing, a declaration of the flights, seats, and first stay, as well as travel companions, in case a positive case is found on one of the flights. The idea of waiting is to limit changes needed due to seat changes and route changes. In fact the only people that will even mention the dPLF is your airline, ours just noted that we needed it, but did not check it or ask to see it.

For the test, have not heard of needing a QR code, they would then need to have some way to read it, and it is not the same QR code used in Europe. Again, only the airline will ask for your test prior to boarding, no one in Italy will, at immigration or after. Our carrier simply looked at them prior to international boarding, highlighted the result and the date of test, and returned them to us. We also used Walgreen's for the rapid test.

We just landed in Italy this week, on American Airlines. They wanted us to supply personal info, including negative antigen test results into a VeriFLY app. That app wanted our QR code from an Abbot at-home test (done with online proctor). AA knew our vaccinated status through the VeriFLY connection. I suspect that info was shared with the italian authorities, making our arrival at Passport Control easy and swift.

We submitted the dPLF two weeks prior to departure.

You might want to confirm with your airline what details and format they will need/accept, so you won’t have delays or conflicts.
