Omicron has been found in San Francisco

Tomorrow we should know a bit more on what travel restrictions Biden imposes. Good news that the one case found so far has fully recovered after having traveled to SA. Was fully vaccinated but not boostered.

I hope that, that will be the case for the majority if not all who get the Omicron variant. My brother in law and his wife just flew to South Africa (originally planned for 2020) for a dream vacation just this past weekend. They have both been vaccinated and had boosters.

So far that is the result of every known case.

Certainly somewhat encouraging. Obviously things can always change, and it's early yet, but it'd seem this omicron variant has been around for weeks, leaving a lot of asymptomatic or mild cases in it's wake, and we only "discovered" it in the same way Columbus discovered America.

https://www.ecdc.europa.eu/en/news-events/epidemiological-update-omicron-data-1-december-2021 (All known European cases asymptomatic or mild)

https://www.reuters.com/business/healthcare-pharmaceuticals/botswanas-health-director-says-majority-omicron-variant-cases-were-asymptomatic-2021-12-01/ (Botswana health official stating 16 of 19 cases asymptomatic, remaining 3 very very mild, most already fully recovered to the point they're now testing negative).

I don't wanna be cavalier about anything, and those articles don't mention whether everyone was vaxxed, ages, other health conditions or lack thereof. But I suppose since there's a chorus of predictions of impending doom and gloom on one side (mostly on the part of media and lazy headline writers), it can't hurt to be aware of reasons for optimism!

O for Optimism, for dealing with the O variant. We’re rebooked for South Africa/Botswana/Zambia/Zimbabwe this coming April, and it would be a shame to have to delay it yet again. Hopefully residents of those countries also get through this latest development without trouble, for all our sakes.

We’re scheduled to connect through London, and that could be be one of the kinks in the plan, if things go awry.
