Medical Travel Insurance - American Express Global Medical Protection

Planning a trip to Greece and France (6 weeks) in Sept/October. I am only interested in medical coverage for myself (60) and my husband (78). I have looked at a wide variety of options and have received quotes ranging from $64 for American Express Global Medical Protection $100K Medical and $100K Evacuation to over $700 from many other providers for similar coverage. The AmEx is not through a credit card but just single trip coverage. Has anyone purchased and/or acutally used the Amex service. The price seems too good to be true compared to the other options.

At this point the US requirement to produce a negative Covid Test is still in effect. Travel insurance that includes Covid coverage in case you or your husband test positive the day before your return flight home is
wise to get as catching Covid may be the most likely need for a policy and needing to stay an additional week to 10 days in a European city can add a surprise couple thousand dollars to the tab of your trip. You can check www.InsureMyTrip.com for companies offering it within their standard policies. I buy the policy offered by Generali Insurance Company.
Stay safe, and have a great Trip!

I have read that the cost for travel medical coverage increases for those 70 and over. Medicare does not cover services provided outside the US. I purchased coverage for both overseas medical services and for hotel/meal/transportation expenses if I need an extended hotel stay at the end of my trip should I need to quarantine. Your US state where you reside will determine the amount of reimbursement. It is misleading when companies state “up to” $20,000 for example. I purchased a plan from Seven Corners. You might want to check out Forbes for travel Insurance reviews and ratings. They provide reasons why they like each of the suggested/rated insurance plans.
