Report: Just took a COVID test to get back in US from Mexico

All right, I know it’s not Europe, but in case it’s helpful, here’s how it went. We are flying Delta tomorrow., We need a viral antigen test. Our hotel in Playa del Carmen offers them for free if you stay 3 nights. I will note in addition, though, that there is a big van parked on the street just a few feet from here offering instant antigen tests. And every pharmacy we walked by was offering them as well.

For ours, we were escorted into an empty hotel room and a nurse did a quick nasal swab. I had the results in my email within 15 minutes.

I then went to check in for my Delta flight. As part of the process, Delta asked me to attest that I had a negative test. Fingers crossed that the rest is as easy as that!

Your report is reassuring to read. Until (if) things return to pre-pandemic policies, maybe more and more places worldwide will make the process that easy. And congratulations on testing negative.😊

Hope it was a good trip!

I haven’t heard of places offering free tests in Western Europe. To travel from the U.K. to Europe and back will cost over $1,000 for the two of us to take the necessary PCR tests.

@Cyn - It was a fantastic trip!!!!
@Jennifer - Wow that is expensive! I just went to one of the websites for local companies for the viral antigen cost and it is $50 if it’s not included with your lodging.

Sarah Murdoch, a well-known past RS tour guide just posted on her site this, heading to Amsterdam, “ Be prepared to fork over $200-300 in addition to your ticket price if you’re flying overseas. I’ll need one to get back into the US as well.” She paid $170 for the type required - some types weren’t valid. “ Also, not all Covid tests are created equal. I had to do research to find one that would be accepted in the Netherlands. There is a “Travel Clinic” 2 minutes from my house, but their tests didn’t cut the mustard. Instead, I drove down to the airport for a “Gold Standard” test.”

Jennifer, wow! How expensive are tests in the UK or Europe, or do you need more than one test each way? Here the most expensive test I’ve seen is $200 for rapid in-airport tests, where I bet they can jack up prices, most tests are cheaper and sometimes free with insurance. I don’t know the cost of the return tests in Europe, of course.
