Is there any reason not to share vaccination info with your airline?

United Airlines is trying to collect vaccination info about its customers and to do so is having a giveaway right now - upload your CDC card showing your jab details to your profile and be entered in a lottery for free tickets in July to anywhere.

Is there some reason why we wouldn't want to share this info with United?

I can't think of a reason not to. That information is out there in databases all over the country when you get your vaccination, so what's the worry?

if you dig down into the official rules, there's a way to enter by mail without divulging your status. That's what I just did.

If you choose to give it, it's not like they can hack into your personal life. If you're in Mileage Plus United already has a ton of info about you like DOB, passport number, Global Entry, favorite cocktail, etc.

You might get a lot more advertising from United, as a targeted customer. If you fly, what’s the harm there? Maybe the airline is making an effort to encourage more people to get their vaccination already, so we’re all better off. And then more people can and will travel, maybe on United!

In my opinion, the short answer to the question in your heading is "No."

Airlines are going to want to see this info. Cruise lines want to see it. In short, no one wants to be the subject of the story "COVID-19 outbreak on XXXX plane/cruise/train".

Since I'm already booked on United to Italy in September, I plan to upload because I probably will need to anyway.

It's a free giveaway; you don't have to sign up if you're not comfortable...I'm debating on a cruise giveaway that wants my DOB (not a cruise line I've already traveled with.) Chance of winning small; chance of more junk emails high. Is it worth it...? (rhetorical but if anyone wants to give input, I'll read thanks :-)

If you are already a Mileage Plus member, this will probably not increase your email count. As noted above, they already have lots of data on me.

You really don't have to since I keep hearing that Bill Gates injected tracking devices in the vaccine so he can keep track of everyone.

Just kidding. United wants this information so it can send you more promotional emails stating things like "youre vaccinated---why not take this trip." The incentive is a free cruise if you tell them.
