I passed!!! And I have a question…

I took my Covid test this morning for a trip out of Berlin tomorrow and I tested negative! I haven’t been this relieved since I passed the bar exam decades ago!

Here’s my question. Do I need to print out the document? It’s in my email on my phone, and I’ve saved it in my documents on my phone. I don’t know if I can get a print-out or not. I suppose my hotel might be able to print it out for me but if I don’t need it, I’d rather not do it.

Do you fly out of Berlin tomorrow headed all the way back? If so I think your airline will tell you if it needs to be uploaded to their pre checkin page or shown in some format at the airport before boarding. Which airline are you flying? We are flying out from Frankfurt in a few days and hope we will be dancing for joy with a negative too! Congratulations

Yes, I fly out tomorrow morning at 6:15 AM to the US, and unfortunately, I can’t check in. I tried to check in on Delta but they deferred me to Air France since they are running the first leg. But Air France is not letting me check in either. The same thing happened when I left. I couldn’t use the online check-in. I don’t know why.

Well, I went ahead and asked the hotel and they had no problem printing it out for me. I realized after I posted this that most people who might be reading this are probably sleeping.

I don't trust Air France after my last flight with them and if they have a way to screw things up, they probably will. So I'm going to have a paper and digital PDF. I might frame it when I get home.

Hurrah! We couldn’t print our emails with results, but the check in agent (Iceland Air) had no problem just reading off of our phone.

Congratulations! Whew!

We flew back from Málaga in January on Delta, but first leg operated by Air France. We needed to show our paper copies of negative tests at the check in desk in Málaga as well as at our connecting gate at CDG (although I can’t say if electronic would have been OK at CDG; we had paper and just showed them that).

I hope your flights home go smoothly!

Three trips since August 2021 (on number 4 right now). I always get a hard copy to take to the airport. It seems to make things go better when I can show my hard copy.

We only had a paper copy from the pharmacy. It told awhile to get to the right spot on Delta's site, but we were able to take a pic of the results and upload it to Delta's FlyReady (we were on an Air France flight, also). A few hours later we got a notice from Verified by TrustAssure. No one asked to see it at either airport. You also need to sign a paper form attesting you passed. I got it at the gate, and we turned it in when we got in line to board. Our luggage was expedited to Hibbing and delivered by an employee on his way home from work. Congratulations on passing, and I hope your journey home goes smoothly.

Annie, I’m glad your luggage got home OK! I don’t know what’s up with Delta and Air France. I cannot check in online and I cannot print out my boarding pass or save it to my phone, and I cannot use Fly Ready.

I’m staying at the airport hotel tonight in Berlin, so I can be there at 3:15 in the morning, ready to check in and submit my documents. I feel much better having the print-out of the negative result. And Motel One was very accommodating. I just emailed it to them and they printed it out.

Oh, any want to hear something else ironic? I applied for global entry back in late December. For months now, every time I check it says pending. Today, however, I get an email from them saying that I have conditional approval and I now need to schedule an interview.

Can you believe that? The day before I fly out of the country I get approved.! Aargh! I did go ahead and schedule something. I was debating whether to try and schedule it at MSP tomorrow when I’m there, but I’ve only got a two hour layover and I’m worried that I wouldn’t have time or would miss the appointment. So I will be doing a scenic drive up to Grand Portage, MN to have my interview after I get back.

Mardee, congratulations. I bet you feel relieved. Now have a safe trip home.

I think we were able to enter the info and check in using a link in a Delta email, but, the paper copy should work just fine. Air France said me an email at 12:04 PM yesterday that our luggage was found and currently on a flight to MSP from Paris. That was at the same time the luggage was on the Hibbing flight. Good plan not to get your appointment at MSP. If you haven't been to Grand Portage State Park yet, make sure to do that when you are up there.

Yeah, early morning departures out of the distant Berlin Brandenburg Airport Willy Brandt - how I mourn the loss of the Tegel Airport.

@Annie, I will - I'll plan a little scenic road trip.

@periscope, I'm staying at the Hotel Steigenberger tonight. Pricey, but all I have to do is walk across the plaza and I'm there.

Thanks to all of you for your help! I really wish I could figure out why I can't do FlyReady. Delta keeps pushing it and then when I try, it tells me that it's not available. Sigh. Oh well - by this time tomorrow I will be at MSP, soon to be heading to Duluth. I'm so ready!

We couldn’t use FlyReady either — 10 of us traveling on 3 different reservations, no one could do it. Don’t worry about it, checkin at the counter will be fine.

And congrats on your GE app. In a similar vein, I am positive that the return-to-US covid test requirement will be lifted the day after we return from our trip in August.

So, for those of you traveling mid August or later, you’re welcome. 😉

Mardee, I had the same FlyReady issues when I flew ATL-AMS-BER on Delta/KLM and back again in April. I got to BER early in order to take care of it and drop my bag and the SkyTeam check-in desk wasn't open, and didn't open for another hour. There are self-checkin kiosks, but they weren't open either. In front of me in line were three or four famlies that had to have been moving home. They had mountains of luggage, strollers, pets, you name it. Fortunately when the counter opened, I was able to jump to the Sky Priority line. But so much for showing up early to take care of it. Oh, and the agent just barely glanced at my Covid test results on my phone.

When we were flying home from Portugal 3 weeks ago, our negative covid test results were only on our phones, no paper copy. We flew on Air France. 24 hours before flight time, I'd gotten the emailed reminder to check in, and I was able to do that, but when I tried to upload travel documents to Fly Ready, as suggested in the email, I like you got the message that it wasn't available for my destination. No problem, we were going to have to go to the check in desk to check luggage anyway. The Air France agent had no issue with the fact that we were showing her our results by phone instead of giving her a paper copy. I had the whole email opened up. My husband had zoomed in on the QR code but she told him that didn't work, she had no way to scan that and needed to see the whole email. Quick and easy. It's frustrating that the Delta Fly Ready app is so touchy. It worked for us once, traveling back from Italy in November, but more typically we get the error message.

@kayla, that's what i'm worried about - I'll bet you anything I get there at 3:15 am and there is no one to check me in.

Actually, that just gave me a thought - since I'm so close, I may just walk over there this afternoon and see if I can flag an agent who will tell me what time check in opens.

My iphone asked me if I wanted to download our negative tests on my MY HEALTH app though I had paper copies and had taken pics of our negative tests printouts……the Delta gal looked at the MY HEALTH app and said our documents were fine…..I think the younger generation is so Iphone oriented that the agents have to be willing to accept electronic copies though i had immediately downloaded our negative tests to our Delta FlyReady accounts….this was 2 weeks ago leaving Paris……….

If your on Delta or it’s partners don’t waste your vacation time on Fly “not” Ready. Worthless app

They will read the report on your phone

I don't know why Fly Ready worked for me, but it worked fine for me flying out of Paris to the U.S. on Saturday.

I know it won't work for me going back to France though. I am never able to check in online going back because they somehow aren't equipped with the ability to deal with residence cards .

Edit to add: smart idea Mardee to go over this afternoon since you are right there !

Iberia collected my paper copy, she said that she must have a paper copy. I'm not sure what people did that did not have a paper copy? Either way I would want both, phone and paper. The airport workers were so happy that we had paper copies of everything, both over and back. J

I had FlyReady work great on my outbound flight from Spokane to Paris and even was about to download boarding passes. On the way back - AMS to Spokane, couldn't get a thing done although was able to load my negative test. They still asked to see them at check in.

You are on the plane and on the way home by now but SO happy you got your negative test!

Mardee, wishing you all the best. (and hopefully, you will read this as you're relaxing after customs in the USA, so, welcome home)
Over the next few weeks, many of us are hoping you will post reports of your adventures.

In Milan, two weeks ago and Delta would not accept my downloaded negative test result for my board pass. I kept getting a message that the information on the test did not match with my airline information and I needed to go to the Delta counter. After 45 minutes in line, the agent looked at my passport, briefly at the negative test result and gave me a boarding pass. Go figure.

Did the pharmacy use your passport to make sure the name on the test exactly matched your airline information? They took our passport when we paid for the test and didn't return it until they gave us the results. I was wondering why they kept all 6 of our passports, but they must have wanted to make sure they got all the spellings and birthdates correct. We only received a paper copy, no email version. At some point, this all has to either go away or become standardized.

@annie, you're right - it's so inconsistent. I didn't even go to a pharmacy since they have testing centers all over the place in Germany. And Delta desperately needs to fix the FlyReady app.

@bogiesan, I hope to post trip reports soon - just need some time to recover from jet lag. I slept for almost 11 hours last night!

mnannie, The passport number and my name did match the information on the pharmacy negative test result. This was obviously a screwup with Delta’s online system with the number of passengers in line going thru the same experience I was, not being able to get their boarding pass online. Point being, make sure you allow sufficient time at the airport for all hiccups in our new world of travel.
