Health Insurance Recommendations

Can anyone recommend health insurance ($30,000) they require for EU? I have seen a lot of travel insurance sites but I thought that was more missed trip.

Who is "they"?

Many on the forums discuss travel insurance, including health coverage. Those discussions can be found under many different forums. The easiest way to find them is to put trip insurance in the search box on this Rick Steves website. After you get the initial results, click on Travel Forums. Then limit to the last 6 months -- especially these days.

There's a special section about it in the Rick Steves Travel Tips about travel insurance under Trip Planning.

Here's the link: https://www.ricksteves.com/travel-tips/trip-planning/travel-insurance

I always get my travel insurance quickly after spending the first money on any trip so that I can be covered for pre-existing conditions, and I get extra medical coverage as well as medevac and repatriation of remains. This year I got a more comprehensive policy for my trip next summer. It's different from what I normally get.

The cost depends on factors like age, length of trip, where you are going and what state you live in, as well as what coverage you get.

Beyond the Covid-19 specific, there are so many options, it's hard to sort them out. That's why researching Rick's Tips and what others discuss is so helpful.

Indeed I did some searches here, and I mainly found Travel Insurance - but I am looking for health insurance. I did not find any references to health insurance.

First, find out what your current health insurance covers (or doesn’t cover) for international travel. You may be pleasantly surprised. Do this research yourself by contacting your provider directly.

Health insurance is regulated at the state level. Some options suggested by forum members may or may not be available to you. You will need to research for your state.

Websites such as “insure my trip” allow you to enter filters for the type of coverage you want (medical only) and for your state. You can also Google “international health insurance” and get quite a few leads. Some states allow for annual policies such as geo blue.

Thank both of you! I will check my personal coverage (US passport) and my partner holds non-US, non-Shengen passport and she needs a visa. I need it for her for sure.

Blue Cross/Blue Shield offers health only insurance through Geo-Blue. A friend used them and was satisfied with the policy and the premiums.
