Getting such grief from people for our trip to Canada

We're going to Canada this weekend. The Maritimes. We're vaccinated. Just tested negative on a PCR test. Driving. Doing outdoor things. Staying in hotels. A couple family members are acting like we are going on a killing spree.

Jeez. What will they say when we go back to Europe next year? (Sorry...just venting.)

Mary, are you going to have masks, as an additional precaution/concession? You’ll have taken every precaution, then. How do those family members feel about you going anywhere outside your home, but remaining in your community? Is that acceptable?

Continue being safe while you visit Canada.

This is why I don't tell anyone my business. If I want someone's opinion, I'll ask for it.

Well Mary, just speaking for myself, I was visiting Quebec recently and ran into Americans from Massachusetts and Georgia. I'm happy you're able to visit.

Yes, Cyn, we are taking 50 n95 masks. Taking our Yeti and eating a lot out of our cooler or take out. Only "people" thing we are doing is visiting my retired doctor cousin in Lunenberg. We can spread it, but I think the odds are very low.

I find the venting can sometimes be useful to create thoughtful debate. We're back from a staycation that took us to Banff and Jasper. Based on license plates we had many visitors from BC, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario and a surprisingly high number of Quebec plates. Not a lot of Americans, but also plates from our border states plus Oregon and Tennessee. The hospitality industry is grateful that people are taking their baby steps back into civilization.

Nigel, Yeti is a brand of ice cooler / ice chest.

I think it's helpful for people to see the things you're doing to avoid possibly getting sick or spreading it.

???? Abominable Snowman?

Yes, Nigel, it's a very expensive cooler. :) I initially balked at paying that much for a cooler, but it has been so useful for pandemic travel. We retired right before covid hit, and all our travel plans were scuttled, but last summer we visited Civil War battlefields and bike trails and ate most of our meals out of the Yeti. A frozen milk jug keeps things cold for at least 4 days.

We hope to stimulate the Maritimes economy while being as safe as we can. So...some restaurant take out and patio and some cooler meals.

Have a nice visit with your cousin, I’m sure he will be Happy to see you, I know I would be. We’re travelling Tuesday overseas to visit family, they are very excited we are coming. PS, my sister swears by her Yeti products.

Yeti also makes expensive, but high-quality stainless steel-lined beverage containers, that keep hot things hot and cold things very cold. They’re more durable, and better insulating, than our Thermos containers.

Now if a Sasquatch brand for ice chests/tumblers comes out, there will be abominable competition.

I have learned to ignore the fear mongers. You are doing all the right things. Enjoy your trip.

Oh Nigel, you did give me a giggle. A Yeti would certainly help with social distancing.
And yes, I am aware of the Yeti brand of insulated containers.

I hope you have a wonderful trip. This pandemic hasn't necessarily brought out the best in all of us. It is hard not to have taken a position that you feel is right in terms of public health and not judge others with a different position. I think we all struggle with this. I sometimes find myself thinking unkind thoughts about complete strangers about which I know nothing other than they aren't wearing their mask when they are supposed to be.

I have to have stern talks with myself and sometimes I am more successful than others. I don't think we should be surprised when others comment and don't like our choices. I do think we should remember how that feels and not be guilty of doing the same thing ourselves.

Yeti coolers are pricey, by anyone’s standards. Sometimes you do get you pay for, and Americans seemingly liking ice so much more than Brits - and LOTS of ice - the premium cost of a Yeti could be accepted more readily here than across the pond.

How prevalent are Yeti coolers in Canada?

Just a quick reply to say our trip was wonderful. We were very impressed with the mask rules and contact tracing and testing in the Maritimes. Border crossing was easy if you do the paperwork and testing required ahead of time. The testing when we arrived at PEI was very efficient. People were warm and welcoming. Very few Americans.

As for the Yeti, it worked well. We did a combo of Yeti picnics, take out food, and some dine in. Our Yeti was $299. You can get smaller cheaper ones and larger more expensive ones, but we opted for our size bc anything larger was too hard to lift!

Happy travels to all!

Mary, that’s so great to hear. Whether the family members giving you such a hard time will ever acknowledge that you weren’t mass murderers after all, at least you had a good trip. Living well (while safe) is the best revenge.

So, what’s the next adventure for the big Yeti cooler?
