Free Covid-19 tests available again

Rather that get buried in a long discussion, I started this new topic. I'm providing this free WaPo link about the return of free Covid-19 tests designed to detect the new variants.

Federal government to start providing free coronavirus tests once again

I hope the info will be useful. I used 4 of last year's tests last summer and I was glad I'd brought them on the trip.

Read the article. It starts 9/25. Here's a quote: "Starting Sept. 25, people can request four free tests per household through covidtests.gov. Officials say the tests are able to detect the latest variants and are intended to be used through the end of the year."

With the Covid surge, I bought more masks to wear on the plane, train and really crowded places. My friend caught Covid in Greece for the very first time last May and was very ill. I hope wearing it in these places helps lessen the risk. I have worn one in 18 months and am not too excited about it.

I'm glad to hear it. I recently had to throw out a bunch of expired tests and hadn't gotten anymore yet. Now I will just order them and have them delivered to me.

It’s a benefit of being old! : )

Medicare pays for free home test packs, so I always have some available and take six of them (3 placed into a 2-pack box) when I go to Europe.

Thanks for sharing this article and link. We’ll be replacing our outdated tests.

Medicare pays for free home test packs

As far as I know as of the end of the Covid Public Health Emergency on May 11th Medicare no longer provides free at home test kits. They do cover tests done in the doctors office but not the over the counter at home tests. It's possible that certain Medicare Advantage plans do continue to cover them but not regular Medicare. That's why I'm glad they will now be again provided by the gov't.

Thanks for the info, Lo!

Our local library had free tests and masks for the longest time, but that’s been discontinued.
