Flying back to the U.S. on United, updates?

Hello everybody,

Last weekend, when I did a deep dive into these Covid requirements/QuickMd/Recovery letter/Airline reg threads, it seemed that some passengers were finding United a bit more trying than usual and holding fast to the 10-day-since-positive-test rule, as opposed to other airlines like Delta which were taking people after five days. Now that QuickMd has changed their rules to 10 days as well, I was wondering if anybody had any updates on flying home via United?

How smooth (or not) was the process of uploading docs, were paper copies accepted if apps were wonky, etc.? Or really, any info that seems relevant, would be appreciated. I have some United miles saved up and would like to use them before they become even more useless, but the stuff I was reading this weekend was a little unnerving.

Thanks!
Caroline

I returned to the US on United from London on 4/30 and had my covid test done the day before and results emailed to me. I took a screen shot of the certificate and just uploaded it to the Travel Ready section on the United app. This generated a Travel Ready stamp on my boarding pass. No one ever asked to see the email or needed any further info to allow me on the plane. I did see people in line to check in showing paper copies or their phone to the staff, so I expect they will accept documents that way.

I just flew home with United on Saturday from Frankfurt. I got an antigen covid test the day before and had both a printed copy and an online version of the test results. The process was very quick - they checked my passport and looked at the negative test result and I got my boarding pass. Very simple. It was interesting to note that they didn't require masking on the plane back to the US - only about 1/2 of the people wore theirs. I did use United's online Travel Ready center on my way to Europe in late April and it was very easy to upload a screenshot of my covid vaccine card (or any other documents you use) and I was cleared pretty quickly. I did have to see an agent at the airport and wasn't able to use the online check-in or one of the kiosks at the airport. But the line was pretty short and it wasn't a big deal (by the way, this also happened on my return trip home, so just leave a little extra time).

I had the same experience on 5/1 that Christa had.

We just flew home from FCO today on United
I didn’t bother uploading anything for return ( I did for our flight TO Italy)

Showed passport and negative test, checked bag and got boarding passes, went thru security and all the way to gate in 30 minutes
Super efficient

Those that had their results on phone were taking longer, holding up the line
We only had paper copy of our test results

We had no trouble uploading rapid pharmacy test 3 May and flying CDG to IAD same day. Great time 33 days in Europe. Changed KN94 mask daily for 33 days.
