Flights into Italy

Any insight into how the recent changes for Americans entering Italy has gone so far? We have a flight into Rome scheduled in August (via Barcelona) and it now appears that (as of 6/21) vaccinated tourists only need to show proof of the vaccine and fill out a form. No testing and no quarantine. Does that sound correct? Anyone have a different interpretation?

That is correct at the moment. No guarantees for August.

Things can change.

Like the stock market, sometimes up and sometimes down.

Things will change at least once, maybe more, before August. Hang on and stay tuned.

Dealing with two countries will complicate things.

I was looking at flights last week for a potential trip to Italy in late August. From the US, it looked like a Covid-approved flight (having an approved Covid test within 24 hours) is required for entering Italy regardless of vaccine proof. Unfortunately my option on Delta is a LONG 11-hour layover in JFK. I’m also looking at options to go to France, instead. I would love to do a Nice, France arrival and end in Venice, but I’m not taking a chance on two country’s rules this time.

You might want to look at some of Sarah Murdoch’s “Adventures with Sarah” recent posts on FB. She just came back from Europe and had great insight of the flexibility of situations and recommendation to be ready with some extra money budgeted for possible changes in requirements.

Barcelona & Italy sound wonderful right now! 😊👍

Currently only vaccinated proof is needed. Most current info is on the Lufthansa web site

Thanks everyone!! Sounds like if I have all the documents filled out for arrival into Spain, and also the documents for arrival into Italy I will be ok. Then of course I will need to have the current documents ready for my flight back from Italy (if COVID testing is still required to enter the USA). Correct?

PS- is it also safe to assume that since I will be entering Italy from another EU country the passport control and/or COVID document check stations won't be as strict as if I was arriving into Italy from the USA?
