February trip cancelled by airline.....

This is trip # 4 that has had to be rescheduled. In fact, it was the rescheduled trip from March 2020. Who knew that 2 years would not be enough time?? I am grateful to Aer Lingus for the prompt and clear communication that these flights were no longer going to offered (Seattle-Dublin/Dublin-Lisbon).

All of my reservations were easily cancellable without penalty. Aer Lingus apologized for stopping their flights and promptly gave me a refund of my ticket costs.

I'm disappointed, but accepting. I have a trip to Spain scheduled for December with my sister. I wonder how that will play out?

Are there no other airlines that fly between the US and Portugal?

Of course there are! I'm just holding off right now on making any new plans. I don't really want to go through some of the stress I have seen with other posters go through with constantly changing flights. At this point, I am financially whole. I want to think through my options before I try this trip again.

Carol, I think that is a terrific way to proceed! Sorry about the cancellations but yes, this give you time to consider your options while not having any money hanging out there.

And yes, looking back, I was sure in March of 2020 I'd be able to travel in the Fall of 2020! Oh well.....

Happy planning!

When you get serious again, look at a commuter flight to Chicago or San Francisco then take Turkish Air. I haven't heard of any of their flights being canceled; and I have been on somewhere between 8 and 12 of their flights in the last 12 months.

@James E: Just curious: The only options I ever see from the west coast via Turkish Air seem to be stuff like LAX-IST or SFO-IST, which are around 13 hours. Everything goes through Istanbul. Seems like really long round-about way to get to Europe.

I'm sorry your trip didn't work out. It's disappointing to do all the planning and not get to go. And I agree with @Pam. Makes sense to step back and think through your options, until the planning part is fun again.

I hear you about not planning too far ahead - I just had flights to Australia cancelled for next month - we had already realised that they were unlikely to happen because our quarantine free travel to Australia is unlikely to return for months.

Today I booked flights to Queenstown in 2 weeks - got some good prices - been there multiple times but at this stage just having something booked that is likely to happen is good. Not going to book a non-refundable hotel until a few days prior though

You are right about Australia.

I have Australian friends who came here to England to visit a sick (not covid) relative immediately before the First Lockdown in England (March 2020) and have not been able to return to their home in Melbourne until last week, despite desperately trying to get help from politicians both here and in Australia. Australia hasn't let even its own citizens return.

They finally got on a mercy flight 12 days ago which took them to isolation at a covid camp in Darwin (sort of like North Dakota if you live in Florida for distance) and were let out 2 days ago. Now they are trying to get to Melbourne and then they will enter lockdown because of the tight controls there. No leaving the house.

For those that have to take a local flight to reach one of the few Turkish Air departure cities, it could be a bit longer (i drive 3.5 hours to Houston to catch my flights).

But after reading what I have read here about all of the canceled flights, maybe not.

Maybe days or months faster? As for changing in Istanbul, not a bad airport at all to have to go through, and not really out of the way if you are heading to Central or Eastern Europe.

Just offered an option if fear of cancelations were the driving force.

Sorry to hear that, Carol. I’ve been wondering if that SEA to DUB flight on Aer Lingus would start running again. I’ll be curious to see what Seattle will still have in 2022 for direct flights to Europe. I’m glad they gave you ample notification, at least.
