Delta required a PCR test

27 March 2022

After consulting the RS recommended US State Department on Germany COVID travel requirements which state US travelers must comply with (1) an approved two shot sequence of at least two weeks of age OR (2) proof of recovery OR (3) a negative PCR test taken within 48 hours of arrival. But yet Delta required us to possess a PCR test. No test, no fly we were told. Pretty tough to acquire a weekend test that meets the time requirement. Why did Delta make us get s PCR test? We were in possession of valid vaccination and booster status. Help!

Why did Delta make us get s PCR test?

Delta didn't. An uninformed Delta employee who needs education did. Use the Delta complaint form to help him/her get education... scroll down to "Feedback and Complaints" on Delta's help page on its website: https://www.delta.com/us/en/need-help/overview

Keep your complaint short and sweet. Two to four sentences or nobody reads it.

In August, I flew to Germany on Delta, and the ticket counter agent asked for a PCR test. I told the agent that a test was not required. He looked at his screen and said, "That's not clear now, is it?" Happily, I had obtained a PCR test just for good measure and was able to pull one out on the spot.

In May, I'm headed to Germany again. Barring something changing, I will not get a test since numbers are low. But I'll have the German Embassy's website pulled up on the phone at check-in, along with Delta's website that contains requirements.

Yes to Dave’s plan and nicely ask to escalate to a supervisor.

So we are not alone regarding Delta gate agents demanding a PCR test. It’s hard to argue with only a few hours until departure. How is this happening?

Poor training. So, maybe Delta did make you get a PCR test. Of course, the guy who demanded the PCR test of me was a guy who has been at my local airport for ages. He's the one gate agent at my outstation who is kind of grumpy.

If you know a gait agent is clearly wrong, ask for a supervisor or if in an airport with a good-sized Delta operation, ask for a "red coat."

Hey Dave! We're not an "outstation"! You can buy a meal and a beer at our airport, and theres an A and a B! 😄

After ATL being my home airport for a few years, I love GSP. Twenty minutes from my driveway to the gate. I'll take that any day!!

I love GSP! I live a little further away but my park to gate time is usually in the 5-7 minute range. TSA Precheck and early/late flights help with my time!

I love Delta but their information is inconsistent. A friend and I recently went on a RS Tour. She was told by DL she did not need a test. I was told I did twice on the phone. When she got to the airport she was again told she did not need a test to board. I flew out of a different airport and was told I needed to show proof of a negative Covid test.

Luckily I had decided to get a Covid test (at my own expense because my insurance will not pay for a Covid test for travel). I was therefore able to show her my negative test result and was able to board without any problems.

I'm heading to Germany tomorrow from ATL. I had a PCR test this morning for my own peace of mind and expect the results tonight. Delta FlyReady has been down for two days, so I haven't been able to see what they'll ask me for. If you're fully vaccinated and haven't been in a high-risk country in the last ten days, you don't need a test. You don't even need to fill out Germany's passenger locator form. I'll report back if I'm asked for a test.

Don't hang this on Delta, it could have been any airline, any airport, any call center, any agent. Things are complicated now folks, and it's hard to keep up. Now that the black and the white are gone and we're in the gray, anything goes. Best advice is to cover your, well, whatever. If you're flying bring plenty of masks and get a test beforehand. Just do it.

Leaving for Roma tomorrow. I have in hand (and on phone) the email sent to me by Delta last Thursday CLEARLY stating the requirements, and that a booster dose has NO expiration date. Accepted vaccine and Digital Passenger Locator Form. That is ALL.
Do not see any Gray in this, pretty darn black and white.

For non-vaccinated it adds PCR OR Antigen test. Pretty darn clear if you ask me.

Fly Ready has been "down" for two months. I am getting repeating emails and text from Delta to upload my documents and save time at the airport. Sadly I click "Fly Ready" and just receive an error message - again and again.

I actually used FlyReady to come home from London ten days ago and it worked perfectly.

I got a pre-trip email from Delta too, but it said nothing about destination requirements, only that masks were still required on board, linked to the Amsterdam airport map, told me to download the Delta app, etc.

Fly Ready. I have been advised in two LONG phone calls to Delta (and two LONG waits on hold) that "sometimes it just doesn't work for some people!!" Second call after considerable conferencing stated that as we were flying home on a Partner Airline it likely would not work.

Check emails again, my confirming almost time to go email linked me to the requirements page on Fly ready, which did not work for me until this Sunday. Also did not work on Chrome, had to to go to Edge to access the requirements map, but the pull downs for Italy have very specific information. No test, vaccine required and PLF completed. Bookmarked page and printed.

To update my previous reply, the Delta agent DID ask me for a test. I said "I'm not required to have one. Would you like to see my vaccine card?" She scrolled down her screen for a moment, asked to see my vaccine card and said "you're vaccinated and boosted, you're good to go." I did have PCR test results I could have used if I had an agent that didn't budge, because I always test before I travel for my own peace of mind. These agents can't possibly remember which countries have which travel restrictions, so I think the onus is on the traveler right now to (a) know and (b) have plan B if the agent insists and you aren't able to get a supervisor involved.
If Delta FlyReady is working, this scenario will be moot, because that system knows the requirements.
