It was reported today the Czech Republic is banning tourists unless fully vaccinated.

As it should be.
Makes sense. Although some countries allow proof of COVID recovery also
They are doing the right thing.
They are doing the right thing.
Are they though? This whole idea that vaccinated people are less likely to transmit Covid, most notably the Delta variant, has now been proven to be false therefore allowing only vaccinated tourists in is a pointless exercise, a vaccinated person is just as likely to transmit Covid as a non vaccinated person.
If you want a shot at getting into Czechia, you need a shot. Or two. Coming up, perhaps three.
Maybe they want their ICUs free as possible of very sick, unvaccinated tourists so that there's plenty of room for their own citizens needing critical care, including for non COVID-related illnesses/injuries? Makes sense to me.
Everything changed with the Delta variant. Public health experts here (and every other country) have never said that vaccines prevent you from getting infected or transmitting virus, just that it was less likely. Now, the Delta generates much more of a viral load, but its still not as bad as being unvaccinated.
The best analogy I heard was from a immunologist on a recent national zoom conference. She said vaccines were like an umbrella: they will keep you dry when its drizzling, but if it rains hard enough, you still will get wet. Just not as wet as you would be without it.
No guarantees, just doing the best with the weapons available.
I'm wondering if at some point countries will have vaccine expiration dates in terms of letting people visit. I believe Austria had or still has this requirement.
I think Austria is 270 days or 9 months.
Vaccinated people that test positive to the Delta variant may have lower viral loads than the unvaccinated. There is also some evidence that vaccinated folks are infectious for a shorter period of time (decreasing the potential number of contacts).

I think a big factor probably is that vaccinated people that contract the Delta variant are hospitalized at a much, much lower rate and are less acutely ill, so they don't fill up limited ICU beds. The Czech Republic may wish to keep their hospital beds free of tourists to save them for their own citizens.
The Czechs are taking the right step...good decision.
Good for them! JC Where did you get you info? Please cite your source.
They are absolutely doing the right thing. My husband and I are fully vaccinated, will be in Prague Sept. 15-19. I am certainly not thinking for one moment that I am immune to not catching anything, but I feel a bit better knowing they are taking some precautions.
