Covid related trip cancellation/interruption insurance

Hi folks:

I am looking for a good insurance policy that covers Covid-related trip cancellations/interruptions. I do not need health insurance because this is provided by my employer. However, I do need insurance to cover non-refundable costs related to border closures (e.g., closures to Americans or intra-EU border closures). I have the Chase Sapphire Reserve card, but I called them twice to make inquiries and got hung up twice.

Chase Sapphire Reserve has what you are looking for assuming you booked the trip with that credit card. Log into your account and look under card benefits and then under Trip Cancellation / Interruption.

Are you a member of USAA? We love their Trip Insurance and use it exclusively.

If not, AAA has a good policy if you're a member.

Or, insuremytrip.com

chinalake67, thanks so much for mentioning AAA. It never occurred to me to check with them.

I typically use my Delta AMEX credit card for flights and my Nordstrom VISA for rental car, and both for inns depending on the situation. So when it comes time to get some reimbursement for some trip related issue, how is it determined which card's insurance applies? Or does the fact that I used multiple cards negate any insurance for nonhealthcare related issues that arise. (We have excellent health insurance that covers us in Europe and includes emergency evacuation)

I've searched a few times now for insurance that would cover just the additional expenses related to a quarantine and haven't been terribly successful.

Jules, when you do your search for a quote, be sure to put in $0 as the cost of your trip. That should pull up coverage for trip delay minus coverage for cancellations/interruption. I’ve been looking for just quarantine coverage myself and think I finally found one l like with Allianz Travel. I need to look over the details a little more, but if I’m reading their individual travel policy correctly, it appears the trip delay coverage applies if the policy holder or travel companion has to quarantine.

Here’s some info. and when you get your quote, you can click on “plan and pricing details” to see all the details of what specifically is covered.

Carrie and Jules - AAA uses Allianz - I think they can get you a better rate if you're a member.

If you have USAA, they are great also.

Thank you. Unfortunately, Allianz does not cover government actions. It does, however, cover Covid related health costs.
