COVID Bavaria Current

Today (28 Oct 21) Bavaria hit December 2020 COVID infection levels (200/100,000). Ministerpräsident Söder is talking about bringing masks back into schools 8 November after the Fall school break. No new restrictions announced, but a new category of 3G plus - tested but with a PCR test - was talked about after 3G and before 2G. There is a big vaccination push as infections particularly among children have increased and hospitalizations have increased. I don't want to be alarmist, but if you are planning a visit the next months I think you should pay attention.

Thanks for posting this - it's the common theme worldwide - unless more people get vaccinated, the numbers will climb & we will never get Covid under control.

I'm a Nurse and we were supposed to have gone over for the Christmas Markets Dec. 2020, then we postponed to December 2021, and we have now postponed till December 2022. We've been watching closely - as we were also supposed to have gone for the Oberammergau Passion Play in Sept 2020 and now we are scheduled for Sept 2022 - we thought for sure that by 2022, things would be as close to 'normal' as possible - now we are beginning to wonder.

Wow, we were just in Bavaria 2 wks ago on a river cruise. Rates have apparently spiked! Vaccine rates seemed fairly high? We felt safe… and everywhere we went inside surgical masks required and worn properly. Few people now wear masks in my community and I especially notice the contrast as we are back home.
Sad for reply from nurse who again has cancelled her Christmas market trip. And I was thinking that would be very doable this year!? Even more thankful we were there and had a wonderful experience!

I remember hearing about this when I was there, so sad, but not too shocking. Much like here in the USA (though not nearly as severe) it seems regulations are dropped when they should be kept for just a bit longer. When they said they went back to 2G for concerts in some states in early October/late September I thought it might get bad a couple weeks later. :( Hoping things improve soon vs deteriorate because of the cold weather situation. Being able to sit outside is not going to be an option very soon.

It sounds good to me.

I would give my right arm for 200. Places in the UK are over 1,000. Where I am is currently around 450, finally down from over 700.

As far as going down to 2G, 2G is stricter than 3G and 3Gplus. I wish we had either 3G or 2G here.

On Wednesday Ministerpräsident Söder will hold a Cabinet meeting to discuss how to proceed in the Corona crisis. He has also called for a new Bundesland Summit. Restaurants are really checking hard for the 3G now and also asking for an ID to go along with the Impfpass, due to fake or false person Impfpass being used. The big lock down started this time last year.

Well I went to my favorite Zoigl Bier Stuben today. You can probably figure out I'm in north-central Oberpfalz, kind of in the boonies. Even though we know the Wirt (a Metzger and Braumeister) and are Stammgast, we had to show our Impfpass and an ID before entering, and then were given a wrist band similar to a Club to wear! Of course masks are worn when not seated. Controls are being checked and places cannot afford the fines. Lots of talk about the COVID rise, schools and masks next week and COVID boosters. I think we all knew after the summer vacations things would get worse, but not this bad. Waiting to see what happens next.

Any updates to covid policy(s) in Germany? We are overnighting in Munich in December before our return flight home to U.S. Thank you.

Record levels every day. People are advised to avoid large groups. Christmas Markets look to be 2G. Talk of free antigen tests returning. People seem to be following mask rules closely and reducing trips voluntary out like the mandatory lock down last year, but still getting out. Difficult to say what will transpire in the next weeks. The USA was taken off the RKI high-risk list Friday.
