Country of Entry/ Layover/ Covid questions

I know things could change by then, but we have a flight later this year JFK > MAD > GVA. We are then taking a shuttle to Chamonix, France. Would we clear passport control in Madrid? What country's covid entry rules would apply? Spain, Switzerland, or France? Thanks. (I'm guessing not france, since there are no border checks between Switzerland/France to my knowledge)

Would we clear passport control in Madrid?

Yes, you would get a stamp showing the date you entered the Schengen zone

What country's covid entry rules would apply?

Currently (June 8, 2021) all of them: Spain, Switzerland and France.

Regardless of land border controls, you are still required to meet any Covid requirements that country has. Your Hotel will register you with the local authorities...they may or may not follow up.

Spain and France should have similar requirements, due to EU agreements, but one country, may choose to have looser rules (tourism) and the other stricter (following EU guidelines, or issues within that country).

Switzerland, being non-EU, but Schengen, can pretty much go it's own way. I am sure they try to coordinate with the other countries, but will act as they see fit.
