Good morning all-
We are flying to Lisbon, but we have a layover in Amsterdam for 9 hours. Would you recommend not going into the city due to COVID?

If the airport continues to struggle as it has, I would definitely stay airside so going through security is not an issue.

I agree as I passed through AMS on 5/28. Getting back through security has taken some people 4+ hours. I suggest to stay on the airside of security.

If you are making this transition thru AMS anytime soon, it might take you nine hours. Normally I would say nine hours is plenty of time - we've done a long layover in Amsterdam before - and I'm not sure why Amsterdam itself would cause Covid worries more than Lisbon. Howver, Schiphol seems to be in a state of meltdown these days, so if you are lucky enough not to have your flight there cancelled, just get through security and hang out at your gate.
