CDC Vaccine Card for Germany

I understand I may still need to show proof of vaccination to enter certain locations (restaurants etc.) in some states in Germany this July. My CDC card is getting a beat up. Do you think anyone going to give me grief over this?

Possibly? You honestly never know. If you want to feel better I suggest making an exact sized color copy of your CDC card, using a computer to enhance it slightly so it doesn't look as 'beat up' and laminating it. Take your original if someone asks to see it, but show the copy everywhere. I don't advocate for using the copy by itself (without having a backup), my own experience we used the copy since it was identical, no one noticed. I only showed the original one once when boarding from the USA to go to Germany. Even border control couldn't notice the difference (though I will say I have a good scanner and laminator) or the pharmacy when we got a QR code. My real card was tucked away deep in my passport book, though I did have it if they thought my copy was wonky.

And lets just say that copy came in real handy when my friend lost her real CDC card somewhere at LAX. Lets just say after some frantic looking on the plane, well we were already on our way and it was too late. While her card was lost forever, our trip was not (though I think I may have sweat an extra bucket that we'd make it through border control).

Other backup options in case they question your battered CDC card:

1) You can also go to your doctor or provider, and usually get a print out of all your vaccinations. Have them stamp it, and that could work as well ALONG with your original card.

2) You can sometimes get an international vaccination certificate/yellowcard as back up from your local health office by bringing your vaccination record and CDC card. I say sometimes because some places are really rude about it (at least where I am at) . For these the health dept stamps it and a doctor usually signs off on it, you could then bring the yellowcard as backup.

Amazon makes nice thick clear plastic sleeves for vaccine cards - mine looks brand new in the sleeve. They are super cheap and you can packs of them or singles.

I was in Germany for a month (just got back about 10 days ago) and the ONLY time I had to show my vaccination card was when I checked in with Delta on my first flight the end of April. And since Germany has now ended the entry requirement that people be vaccinated, you may not even have to show it then (unless you are traveling elsewhere).
