CDC removes all countries from "do not travel" list

NY Times: "The C.D.C. drops all countries from its coronavirus ‘do not travel’ list."

If you can't read the Times article the change is explained on the CDC site and they have an an interactive map.

I have to admit that I'm puzzled (to put it kindly) at how most of Europe went from "don't go!" to "get vaccinated and wear a mask indoors" overnight. Also that the US is "high" on the map when the CDC has also told us elsewhere that most of the US is "low".

I agree, dropping the re-entry to USA test would be so much better for travelers.

I think it's only a matter of time now that the testing requirement for returning travelers is dropped. The end of this era might be in sight!

A public-health expert interviewed on the PBS NewHour had a more sanguine angle on dropping the re-entry test requirement -- he said it's like trying to keep someone from pouring a cup of water into a swimming pool: there's already so much water in the pool that trying to stop someone from adding to it is pretty pointless. 'merica!

I long ago quit worrying about the CDC/State Department travel guidelines, as I found them way too broad, arbitrary, and when compared to what was going on right here in the US often downright silly. There is readily-available and accurate Covid data, which allows anybody to do their own research and decide their own comfort level for traveling to a certain country or countries.

I recently emailed the CDC about their re-entry testing requirement for flying into the US but not for driving into the US. For a reply I got an email with links to various pages on their website that I had already read.
I guess it’s time to contact my Congressman and Senator.
