Allianz Partners with Air Doctor

I just received an email from Allianz regarding our upcoming trip to Europe in two days. We purchased Allianz for this trip. I know nothing more about it other than this which I thought might be of interest to some:
"NEW! If you get sick or have a minor injury while traveling:
We have partnered with Air Doctor to provide you with in-person or video medical consultations while traveling. Simply use the Air Doctor app to find a licensed physician near you and book on demand."
"Our partnership with Air Doctor:

With this service, you can quickly book and visit with a physician in person or through video consultation if you become ill or have a minor injury while traveling.
No out-of-pocket charges! After you've used the button below to access Air Doctor's services, they will pay the physician directly for your initial visit, so you can focus less on finances and more on feeling better.
For added convenience, download the Air Doctor app or bookmark their website before you go. Of course, you'll still have on-demand access to Air Doctor anytime during your trip, but it never hurts to be prepared.
When accessing Air Doctor for the first time, use this button to get set up."

Sounds pretty good. Alianz also has a network of clinics in Europe that will accept payment from Alianz. Good idea to find the web page with the list and book mark it before you leave.

Very good information all the way around. If you are traveling outside the USA one should make sure they understand how their insurance will work when traveling.

But when you read the Alianz list, many will be called hospitals. Know that they might not be hospitals in the US sense of the word. More like clinics. I mention this as there is a very good chance if you have a major issue that you will be paying cash and seeking reimbursement.

I had a recent, positive experience with Air Doctor. My policy was with Trawick/Nationwide. I started by calling the support number provided for the policy and reached a very helpful person at On Call International - and calling the support/concierge service is probably the best way to start when you find yourself in need. On Call gave me a link to contact Air Doctor, where I was able to choose between an in person or telemedicine appt [for this policy I had to pay up front]. I chose the virtual, and was on a session with a doctor in Berlin within the hour [I was in Vienna]. They are apparently able to issue prescriptions that work cross-border- although I never had need to try to get it filled.

I did walk into an Apotheke that was just down the street from the hotel - in this case you have an initial consultation with a pharmacist, then they go into the back and bring out an appropriate remedy. It's still over the counter to the extent that a prescription isn't needed, but you aren't poring over the various remedies yourself, as we do in the States.

Markcw. I'm glad you had a positive experience and shared it here. Thank you. Services such as Air Doctor, apparently, help us not to have to muddle through a process at 2 a.m., e.g., that we have little clue about even if we've done some "homework" before leaving home. I especially appreciate a service such as a video consultation.
