Versailles, the TV show

So I did a search on the site - just in case this was already a topic - but it was not.

After I got back from France this summer, I watched the complete first season. Any thoughts on the show?

I loved it and can't wait for the second season. It was very popular in France, too.
DH, born and raised in France, rolled his eyes and walked away every time I played an episode.

It was a secret addiction of mine that I binged on Netflix. I think it was romanticized a bit but I loved the art direction and costumes. It did bring up some historic facts like the use of army conscripts to build it that I didn't know about. Can't wait for second season!

Was there any excitement to the show? I started watching it, but it didn't keep my attention. I loved The Tudors. I may try watching it again.

To Pilgrim: Versailles is a bon bon... the Tudors is rare roast beef. They don't really compare. Tudors is Game of Thrones, Versailles is Outlander.

Thanks, Kathleen. I do enjoy Game of Thrones LOL. So I guess "Versailles" won't be my style haha

I liked the show too. I especially thought George Blagden as King Louis XIV was perfect. But I do have to say, after seeing Versailles for itself, and then seeing it on the show as just the hunting lodge w/o the wings and the all the gardens, was a bit weird LOL.

Were the French back then really that open to homosexuality?

I don't have a Netflix acct so I googled free watch Versailles, the TV show. Be careful! The site that I clicked onto had 2-viruses plus the malware palikan virus that took the entire afternoon to uninstall. (BTW: my security software picked up the Trojan viruses but the redirecting palikan virus manages to avoid detection.) It all started with--update your adobe flash player. I should have known better. Even though I declined the update, it loaded the viruses. So my advise-take CDs out of your library or get a Netflix acct.

Ok, I watched the 1st 3 episodes of Versailles this weekend and barely got through them. Was so hoping I'd like it but unfortunately didn't. It was just too weird and creepy...
Loved the Tudors though. I couldn't stop watching and binged through it. Many torture scenes still haunt me 4 years later.

I actually bought season 1 on Vudu - so no viruses for me. I'll probably watch it again, but only for the background of the palace/lodge/the town Versailles itself.

I'm a bit in awe when watching the show - they actually let them film in the palace. I wonder how it was to film in the palace and on the grounds...or if the curators were very strict on what they could do or where they could go - watched them like hawks? When I watched it, I kept thinking, "Man, if I was on the set...I'd be sneaking away to explore every chance I got!"
