I’m not sure where to post this, but here I go. I just read on the news that Rick has donated $225 million to keep open a center which provides showers, laundry, and meals to poor and homeless people in his area. The property was threatened with sale and the center, with closure, until he stepped in.
Here's the on-going thread: https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/tv-episodes/because-rick-just-couldn-t-be-any-more-awesome Rick donated $2 million.
Edited to add: Rick donated 2 million for the above project. Another post in the link was about $4 million he donated for a homeless shelter.
I agree, Yay for Rick! This is not the first time he's done something like this. As I recall, several years ago he purchased an apartment building or something and refurbished it for young mothers in his area. He donates to other causes as well, such as Bread For The World. It's absolutely wonderful to see someone who's willing to help people so much!
