We are booked from December 27th leave January 1st. Flight and hotel is booked as well I just need some info about new years festivities. Someone told me the symphony is playing at the opera house but it will be on screens outside ? I did buy RS pocketbook with lots of ideas in regards to visiting Museums etc but I would like maybe a detailed itinerary for each day. We decided not to rent a car since public transportation is easy. I speak fluent German so language is not a problem. Thank you
Hi, Susanne. The Vienna Philharmonic plays a New Year's concert at the Musikverein (preview concert 12/30, New Year's Eve concert, New Year's Day concert). Tickets are distributed by lottery in February, so there is not much of a chance of getting tickets to that. There is no screen to view the performance outdoors.
The Opera House does have opera performances that are shown on an outdoor screen during the time around New Year's.

There are many Vienna itineraries floating around the internet from a variety of sources -- google something like "Vienna 4 day itinerary," and you will find many options. You could also use the search bar at the top of the page and search for trip reports about Vienna to see how others have structured their visits to Vienna. Creating itineraries is a little outside the scope of this forum as it is populated by volunteers, but we are happy to try to point you in the right direction for information and to answer specific questions.
Good luck planning your trip!
The main event is the New Year's Eve Trail through the city, 12 hours (2pm to 2am) of music and entertainment for free.
This is the website, the program for this year has not been released, though: https://wienersilvesterpfad.at/en/
Check for this event mid December for the final schedule.
Opera performances to be viewed outside for free: https://www.wiener-staatsoper.at/en/your-visit/service/opera-live-outdoors/
Check in December for the New Year's Eve's schedule.

Thank you for the great replies. I am looking for a cooking class does anyone have an idea? Thank you
It's not a full on cooking class, but you can see an apple strudel being made at the café out at Schonbrunn. It's fun, and then you get to eat a piece. It makes a nice break during a busy day of touring. We did this over the same dates that you will be there back a few years ago.
I thank everyone for the kind suggestions. Everything is booked and I am excited for my visit to Vienna.
May I ask where?
Cook in Vienna has classes available on Dec. 27, 28, and 30th.
