The Heuriger area

My husband, son and I will be spending a week in Vienna this September. We are staying at Hotel Austria Wien and would love to spend an evening at the Heuriger area. What is the best transportation to use to get there? Which place there have some of you enjoyed the most?

The Heurigen are does not exist in Vienna. Heurigen are scattered all over the city, at some places in a larger number as elsewhere, at some places rather quaint and old-fashioned, others are very touristy (and frowned upon by the locals).

In Rick Steve's Vienna,Salzburg and Tirol guidebook he refers to the Heuriger area on the map on page 31 which is why I asked about public transportation. I guess in retrospect I should just wait until I get there and ask at our hotel. Thank you for the referral to to previous post. It really has helped. I have not had good luck with previous searches on this site and probably need to hone my skills a bit.

... why I asked about public transportation.

Public transport is everywhere in Vienna. No matter in which part of the city you go to a Heurigen, you will find a way to get there.

For better orientation in Vienna give the official online city map a try: http://www.wien.gv.at/stadtplan/en/

Not only you can search for addresses, but superimpose a vast amount of information by using the check marks in the legend on the left ("show on the map"), e.g. public transport, points of interest, art & leisure, city walks, culture, events, free WLAN hotspots (WiFi), etc.

Regarding public transport, don't trust Google Maps too much.

I can recommend "VOR AnachB", either as app for your mobile phone or here: https://anachb.vor.at/webapp/index.html?language=en_GB
It will show you the route from A to B either by public transport, or by walking, bicycle or car.

Especially for public transport this app is superior to any other app, as it had been designed primarily for that, having been commissioned by VOR (Verkehrsverbund Ost-Region) - Traffic Compound East Region (i.e. of Austria, an area of about 60 miles around Vienna).
