Salzburg/Munich Train

Hi-

I noticed several posts over the past few months regarding the train service between Salzburg and Munich as a result of the refugee crisis. I know things can change day to day, but are trains currently running normal? We are planning a train trip between these two cities in late June and wondering if I should change course. I was planning to pre buy train tickets prior to my departure.

Any thoughts or feedback?

"are trains currently running normal? "

Sorry, I can't answer your question, but even if they are now, how is that going to help you for June? As far as I have heard they are running normal but, regardless of the refugee situation, things can happen on rail lines at any time (see this thread:https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/germany/rail-line-between-munich-and-salzburg-blocked) there's never any guarantee what the situation will be 5 months from now. Just plan for the best scenario, assume that they will be running as normal. If you're concerned you could check closer to the time of ticket purchase.

A quick review of trains into and out of Salzburg to/from Germany on the Bahn website does not show any delays.

However, as Nancy pointed out, today's status does not mean there can't be some interruptions again in June.

Right now it is not a problem at all getting from Salzburg to Munich. While no one can predict the situation in June, I think to change you plans just in case doesn't make sense. Not only is this a major transportation corridor (for locals and tourists) that cannot afford shutdown for long period, there were also many lessons learned last fall which will likely prevent any total shutdown anyway.
