Do we have to pay to get into gate by the Gloriette at Schoenbrunn?
Understand the view from right in front of it is just as good as good as the paid view.
I ask because there is a bus that takes you close by and we can walk down from there instead of uphill.
We visited in Aug 2025, entering the grounds via the Maria Theresia Tor, which is the gate near the Gloriette. We took a bus to a stop near this gate. There was no charge to enter and no barrier nor guard. From our trip report (part 3 Aug 20):
We left our apt...direction Schönbrunn Palace.... Per the helpful suggestion of Forum user wmt1, rather than use the main entrance we entered the palace grounds from the upper end of the gardens at Maria Theresia Tor; it was then an easy and scenic downhill stroll (past panting uphill climbers) from the Gloriette to the palace's main building.
We did this last year - and as GeoffB says, there is no charge and no one at the entrance. Like you, we preferred to walk down to Schoenbrunn rather than up. The view is wonderful!
There is only a small charge for climbing on the top of Gloriette. From the roof terraces you have a magnificent view, overlooking the palace ground and gardens, as well as parts of the city, given that there is good weather.
So looking forward to it.
And the Christmas market there as well!
You can walk all around the Gloriette and its terraces for free. You cannot enter the cafe in the Gloriette unless you are a paying customer. You can pay to climb to the top of the Gloriette for further views.
