I also thought I wrote a report on the Wolfgangsee Christmas markets but I can’t find it right now.
With five days, I suggest two in Vienna and two in Salzburg with a travel day in the middle of. In Vienna, I suggest to visit the markets at Karlsplatz, Spittelberg, Freyung, Schönbrunn and the Rathaus. You can do this in two days, but you won’t have time for traditional sights. On the third day, go early to Salzburg and spend that afternoon/evening at the market in the main square. Day four, go to Wolfgangsee, starting at Strobl and then work your way by ferry to Sankt Gilgen (stop in St. Wolfgang in between). On day five visit what I think is the best market I’ve ever seen at Hellbrunn. Definitely skip Hallstatt. The market pales in comparison to these other locations and Wolfgangsee is iconic for markets.
Happy to answer any questions.
